This is one of the many kinds of creatures that exist in a huge lore of aquatic humanoids. This is an example of a Purple Watcher. Even though the race of creatures is my own, this particular one, Vanderdecken, is the O.C. of another.

Vanderdecken watches over his brood of similar kin. There are only one or two "watchers" per area, and he is one of a pair. While the other (Whose name is Dreadnought) is more stern and strong, this one is a bit more lax. And fat!

While the "normal" sorts of his race can mind control non-sentient sea life, Watchers can mind control the smaller types of his own brood. They also LOVE things with value, and hoard treasure like no ones buisness. It helps that they usually live in shipwrecks. They are also all universally hedonistic.
