this is exceptionally realistic. the grain and dof as well as the white background definitely enhance it to make it look very much like a stock photo.
great work!

Great image. RenderTime?
One thing I notice, it looks like the small points around the finger pieces blurr off to the side of the rings. Are they just bumpmaps? If so I suggest biting the bullet on geometry and extruding out indifvidual edges to make the ridges more prominent across the edges.

Oh wow this is a massive improvement on the last version which was very good too, looks a lot better with the light background, the DoF is really well done too, excellent model to go with it, all in all one of my favourite 3D pieces! Well done man and hope to see more fantastic work soon.

not a single flaw.. I've always wanted to be able to make something physical look so shiny.. I would need a clean room, a smelt, and some fine chamois gloves.

I think that's the power of rendering

Okay, I'm really starting to like the quality of Maxwell renders now.

Thats fine and all, but C4D, FinalRender2, Vray, and even MentalRay are all capable of realistic rendering. Its the Pre-set SKY that gets peoples attention.
I know the FR2 for maya should have the sky, and Vray 1.5 will also include the photo acurate sky+sun system. Vray's PPT is also faster and less noisy as Maxwell's own slow rendering setup if you want to get into unbiased rendering. Vray will also soon hopefully support some light dispersion effects for anyone craving some more acurate up close renderings of glass and metal objects.
Besides, Maxwell renders slower than pretty much any other thing out there wile reaching comparable realism. Days/Hours Vs Minutes/Hours.
Bottom line, Though Innitialy Impressive, Maxwell is a glorafied package of presets.
Still, this image is dang nice.

It's not a matter of the final product, sometimes, but the ease of setting it up. Maxwell definitely does have its disadvantages, but it is quite impressive.
Also, you need to consider that Maxwell has been out for like less than a year, really, so it will have a lot more time to improve.

Its already hit the hardware limit, anything they do to speed it up internaly would be either have biased ray blending, or adding in a better noise-filterer for the final product.

I don't mean in terms of speed, but in terms of features. All programs improve quite a lot over the years - Maxwell is at 1.5, and has only been around for less than a year. I'm not saying it's better than any other renderer (VRay, Mental Ray, etc.), but it's not any worse than any other program when it was first released.

Speaking of Mental Ray, if youre using Max, have you tried 3.5 on Max 9? Its fantastic.

No, I only have Max 7. I think I'm just gonna stick with Lightwave and Maxwell for my rendering needs, although it would be good to learn the other software I have, and then get VRay or something.
