Description Some trombones have a "trigger," which is a key depressed with the left thumb. The trigger is attached to a rotor, which allows an extra length of tubing (which is normally closed off) to be opened. Air can then pass through the normal length of the trombone AND this extra length of tubing.

Basically, you can play sixth position (arm extended pretty far out) in first position (slide all the way in) if you press the trigger.

It also has other uses, but if you're not a trombonist, I won't get into them.

Bach Stradivarius, 36G, gold brass bell, normal slide, normal rotor. Basic intermediate trombone, but I'm no professional, and it works. Hell, I just moved up from a 12C mouthpiece last year. (I've been playing for 12 years now. That's the sort of thing you're supposed to do in early high school. Cripes.)

I look forward to seeing your photos when you upload 'em.

haha ill try and do them tomoz, too much work tonight. and im only on an intermediate yamaha, but have done pro playing! u dont need an amazing instrument to be amazing (although anyone who plays it must be amazing, and insane on some level!)...my yamaha is bit crappy but it slides nicely and gives a nice tone, if a bit cold but there we go! and i only play on a bog standard tenor, not triggers or anything for me...its the rawest of raw trombones!

Ah, my old pea-shooter (aka my basic introductory Bach) had a crappy tone, and the slide never worked quite right. I think I didn't oil it for a year or something. I was amazed how much better I sounded when I first got my Strad.

I'm always embarrassed to use my Strad for jazz playing. Seems like all the REAL trombonists have special triggerless 'bones, like yours.

...and they aren't afraid to use 12C mouthpieces for the higher notes.
