Description During production of The Transformers: the Movie, Galvatron was conceived as an upgraded Megatron (and his toy was sized precisely to counter the existing Ultra Magnus toy, borrowed from the Diaclone toy line).  He was originally going to be a grey color scheme, the same color as the Hasbro toy, but at some point late in the game, the character was changed to purple, which is how he appeared in the 1986 movie and subsequent episodes.  (Sharp-eyed fans will note that when cartoon Galvatron transforms to his cannon mode, he changes from a purple robot to a grey cannon... probably because his robot model was the only one that got replaced.)

Takara finally got around to producing a purple version of the Galvatron toy when they reissued the toy in Japan in 2005.

If the production colors of the Hasbro toy had been changed to match the final animation colors, I imagine his box art might have looked something like this.
