Description Important: this will not be printed or used off DA other than for my instructor to look at and evaluate for the technical purpose of my understanding of photoshop. If at some point that there is a desire to print it, it would be for display purposes only, and not commercial gain. I will seek permission from the stock owners who have expressed in their rules the desire for such if and when the need arises. /end serious tone

This is what we did for our final in my intro to digital media class. The goal was to create a surreal underwater scene using elements not normally found underwater. We were supposed to pay special attention to the edges of objects and the overall design. My instructor also requests that we use the unsharp mask filter as our last step in producing these manipulations.

I know this idea has been done before, you don't need to tell me.

I'm very proud of how the mermaid turned out in the end, after two attempts of making a decent looking one, heh.

I'm request critique, because I'd like to know where I stand with photomanipulation and the overall composition.

Deep Sea, Deep space... what's the difference?

Blargh, I like the version before I unsharp mask'd better... -__-

I had a friend in high school who would draw mermaids all the time so this made me smile ^_^

I've always liked the underwater/space concept, so needless to say I like this. The mermaid looks good, and I like the giant jelly fish ^_^ For some reason tho I didn't "see" the planets at first (probably just my horrible eye sight)

Unfortunately I don't know how to critique artwork, much less photo manips so.... >.>

Lol yay mermaids.

Yeah, the planets and the nebula are very much in the background...

I keep looking at the JPG version of the picture and shaking my head.

It looked so much better as a PSD, I should have put that version up to download.
