Description Nyah!
It's Everis. He's one of those characters you just love writing for as he's sarcastic, evil, yet also has a nice side really really really deep down. You just have to find it...He's not evil as in he goes around killing people, but is more malicious than anything and loves being in control and bossing humans around (well unless it's Sinclair and then he's stuck)

Anyway, I thought, as a treat, I would allow you all to read some of Book 2 - which was originally called The Legacy of Everis, but is now The Vampire's Daughter. This part is where Celeste, our heroine, goes to meet Everis, London's top ranking vamp, at Charterhouse - which is where he works from most of the time. It is one of my most favourite scenes in the book, mainly because of the line at the end. Anyway, enjoy, and if you like this...well, The Amulet of Vichalace now has it's ISBN so will be out...VERY SOOOOOOON!!!

Luv ya all!
Zoe

From Ch 18 of The Vampire's Daughter

"Hello, Celeste."

The treacle like voice was soft and smooth, and Celeste suddenly felt very warm. Everis was standing by the window, but instantly turned and met Celeste's gaze with a gentle smile and a slow sweep of his hand towards his impressive mahogany desk, everything tidy and organised.

"Do sit down."

Celeste obliged him and chose to sit in a soft padded chair, gazing round the beautifully furnished room, winking Tiffany lamps casting rippling coloured patterns of light across everything they landed on. They were so pretty, all the little fragments of glass, so delicate and warming that the young woman instantly felt at her ease. Behind Everis' desk there was a high window that reached up a good few metres, framed either side by a pair of extremely heavy red velvet curtains. Behind the pane of glass, Celeste could see the buildings on the other side of the street and then beyond that the black silhouette of London.

Books lined the walls, Everis' study being one of gentlemanly refinement despite all the lamps, but they just added to the effect. A number of pictures hung on the walls and a large glass fronted cabinet housed a lot of impressive looking cut crystal- glasses, decanters, vases- a collection of sorts. Everything was impeccably clean and tidy and neat that it made Celeste feel almost guilty about the way she lived at home.

"I'm glad you came," Everis said, breaking her away from her thoughts. "Although I was expecting you...sooner or later."

"I hope you don't mind me dropping in uninvited but-"

"Not at all Celeste," he said before she could finish. "I quite enjoy our little conversations."

She blushed, at which Everis smiled thinly.

"You are a brave girl, Miss Reignsway, not many come willingly to see me, although I doubt you would have been as willing if I had been at The Slate Yard tonight."

He leant back in his chair casually, elbow resting on the desk in a relaxed manner. He seemed to ooze confidence and refinement, and Celeste could not help but be in awe of that soft, slick voice. In his own domain he was back to being a true creature of darkness.

"No...I have to agree, I wouldn't have gone there."

"Too frightening for you?"

Celeste furrowed her brow, "I'd be lying if I said it wasn't. I'm only human, remember."

Everis laughed at her comment, his remaining eye sparkling.

"You are not just a mere human, Celeste. You haven't been since that amulet was placed around your neck."

"I am human," she snapped, Everis suddenly realising that through his joke he had actually struck a nerve. "Besides, what I am isn't what I came here to talk to you about."

"I think you'll find you are wrong there, child," Everis said softly, his gaze resting upon her angry face. "What you are has everything to do with all which will soon unfold, and I hope for your sake you are ready."

Everis' eyes narrowed as he watched Celeste squirm uncomfortably beneath his stare. Then he suddenly reached out towards her, his open hand going straight towards her throat. Without even thinking, Celeste's reactions registered within Vichalace's otherwise dormant heart and a stinging flash of energy deflected Everis' hand. Upon the desk were a number of things, one of them being a letter opener, which Celeste grabbed instantly, holding it like a dagger, but Everis was already sitting back in his chair, an amused look on his face, almost as if he was wondering why the young woman opposite him was acting so strangely.

"My dear," Everis said with a slight curve to his lips, "If you were only human, you would not be threatening the Dark Lord of London's vampires with his own letter opener."

It's my book, as in the novel I wrote that is being published. I got a contract earlier this year and hopefully it should be out on the shelves by late 2006. It is called The Amulet of Vichalace and is part of a series called The Darkley Chronicles. A lot of the art I'm doing is just promo stuff, for fun If you want more info, mail me!

OooooOOOoooh...the use of black in this piece is genius. It's very hard, with that much black, to really make it that defined and crisp. Brava, my lady! He's wonderful.

Heh, thanks, he's a great character to write for too as he just verbalises everything and floats around thinking he's the boss of all he surveys

I've told you time and time again how much I like how you draw hair, and this is no expression. I really love Everis' hair. His neck seems kinda long tho.

However, I absolutly love the writing. You give them both such distinct character, and very in tune with everything else you've dribbled out about them that I've poured over. Particularly I like how well you give Everis a efortless feeling of extreme age and utter confidence, with your description of his movements and study.
