Novella did not come into the world on a velvet carpet.
After the grand galloping gala rarity had for a while forgotten the existence of the ever-famous, and horrendously rich, Duke Blueblood. Though many years later after taking up a business opportunity in Canterlot, they cross paths again as he picks up a funeral garment for his late cousin's farewell gathering. After making small talk for a while, Rarity invites Blueblood over to take his measurements and chat about the Noble life over tea. The visits become increasingly frequent as time goes on and Rarity rekindles her once buried affection for the upperclassman, and she eventually has the garb to ask him out on a date, of which he (to her surprise) agreed to. Rarity found herself falling in love as they dated for about a year, while Blueblood found himself somewhat enjoying the company of this "common wench". Though, he never quite saw her as wife material.
2 years pass as they date, and they eventually agree to marry after finding out rarity is pregnant. Rarity was still head over heels for Blueblood's charm and knowledge of precious gems, though the feeling was not as mutual as she had expected. The feeling had faded for him about a year after they dated, but he remained with her for the glorious shine it put on his name, as well as the now heir to the Blueblood name they had on the way .
Blueblood is what is known as a "truenicorn," a unicorn that has kept 100% unicorn blood throughout generations to leave them with signature cloven hooves, leonine tails, luscious beards, and tall slim bodies. Both of Rarity's parents were crossbred with earth ponies, something she neglects to tell Blueblood. But things still go over smoothly, Well, almost.
After being married and 9 months later came Novella Ottava "Blueblood", finally a suitable heir to the royal name.
Or perhaps not.
Blueblood was devastated to find out that not only was his heir hideously undersized, she was blind. Entirely blind. He spoke in a hushed tone to the nurses, it was going to be a permanent condition. He asks rarity how this could have happened, and while talking about family lineage she mentions that both of her parents are earth pony hybrids.
This was the straw that broke the camel's back.
While still in the hospital, Blueblood coldly announces that his feelings for rarity had been a farce for years, and that he was absolutely disgusted that her "Earth pony blood" has ruined his chance at a proper child.
Rarity kicked him out of her room, and eventually the hospital, screaming.
Tired, alone, and with a blind, premature baby, Rarity got horribly depressed. That was until another less-than-perfect pony from the past lended a helping hand. Commander Tempest shadow, after being summoned by princess twilight, assists rarity to raise Novella while she works her way through her depression.
Novella grows up happier than most fillies who could see would, she loved fun sensory activities that Rarity would set up, and learning spells from tempest that would help her to better sense her surroundings (some of which she perfects so well by the time she's an adult, she can go into a full sprint without a single slip, crash, or tumble) and taking time to cuddle up with rarity and eat strawberry ice cream while watching (or in novellas case, listening) to soap operas. Novella discovers her love of archaeology through going gem searching with her mother, and much like her mom's incredibly rare "gem searching" magic, she can hunt down fossils faster than any other pony archaeologist to date. She adores nothing more than digging around in search of anything she can find, she even found a full plesiosaur skeleton once! She's closest with her tiny friend posey petals, daughter of Fluttershy and tree hugger. The two are inseparable and it is almost impossible to ever see one moving about without the other.
But in the Rarity loves her daughter more than anything else, she would go to war for her, and the feeling is mutual.
Rarity, aside from pinkie pie, is one of the best parents in my universe. She and Novella have an unbelievably strong relationship, singing songs in the kitchen, going shopping, and even exploring the darkest caves in Equestria.
Novella doesn't feel like she needs to see to experience all life has to offer.
Once Tempest moves away and the two move to sweet apple acres it's actually Novella that urges her mother to pursue the feelings she so obviously has for Applejack. Rarity insists novella is mistaken but eventually gives in and a genuinely romance begin. Novella likes her new siblings a lot, even if they were a little less than enthusiastic to meet her. And when little peachy came into the world Novella was overjoyed, this also helped the 3 sisters come together much closer to help raise this new little sibling.
