This is Fashion Victim's big sister. I was inspired much by some fashion shots (Niguyen) and Ponsonnet' works who always shares Ballistic Publishing submission pages with me. She also is the second one of a series that features emotion. Here we have a strict kind of emotion, that I currently use as self portrait at several places because it also resembles what I am.

If Melanie Delon knew about this... she painted me once. And it was absolutely beautiful. I was highly impressed by how she sees "the blue woman"... since I could never paint something that sensitive. So she was actually able to see another part of me people hardly see... You can actually find the painting when you take a good look around.

PS:
I am thinking of making a free tutorial for this kind of leather. Would you like it? It basically is pretty easy to paint because you just need a base and a textured brush. What do you guys think?

I love all your works and this one too!

The only thing I would like to know is:
Is there a reason for a so blurred effect on the upper side of her hair? It's a lot in contrast with the lower one! Is that made on purpose to give more highlight on the fabolous details of the other parts of the painting? Or it was just a "coincidence"?

P.S. I'd love to see the tutorial you were wondering about

It was done on purpose to have clear defined focus points.

Superb! One of my absolute favs. I just adore the color scheme! The grayish purple, the bluish green and the dark coral are creating such an atmosphere! Her pose and look are very much fitting the air of the piece. There's power in her character, not so much strictness. It's soft and at the same time confident and stable. She firmly stands on her ground, everything else fades into the background.

Is it possible to get a bigger version?

And a tut on texture brushes (where you get them or how you create them) might be a good idea!

She reminds me of Pat Benathar, an 80s pop singer. The expression on her face is so her. How'd you do that hair effect?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ZombieSandwich In reply to altair-creed [2008-12-22 20:29:58 +0000 UTC]

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 0

NR43 [2008-12-21 09:22:20 +0000 UTC]

I agree that the hear looks kinda "detached" due to the blurriness going too close to the skull. The fact that the tail over her shoulder has totally different colors strengthens this. If it were my painting, I'd give the hair more substance (read detail) where it's closest to the face (on the forehead, at the ears)

I do think that the background suits just perfect.
You could integrate the character even more by using some colors from the background at the edges of the clothing.

The dark outline around her face makes it look like her head is pasted on top of the rest of the painting. That would be my main concern as it disturbs the unity of all the elements in the portrait.

Beautiful work!

ZombieSandwich In reply to NR43 [2009-01-22 18:34:50 +0000 UTC]

Now I see why you know so much about blurryness... you're into photography! I guess I should take a model and make some shots with blur to learn better about what you're speaking.

NR43 In reply to ZombieSandwich [2009-01-22 18:50:01 +0000 UTC]

Heh... to be honest I am sometimes able to see things that can be improved... it doesn't mean I am able to produce such high quality work as yours

Nevertheless, I like studying people's work because I learn from it.
So as much as I was telling you about background integration and depth, I was also telling myself

n8ey [2008-12-21 03:59:58 +0000 UTC]

The focus of the face, the details in the eyes... Then the hair kinda fades detail away and the clothing has that texture...

I can't stop looking.

Well done, I like it!

P.S.: I think a tutorial for that texturing would be great!

I would love such a tutorial. The leather is my favorite part, contrasting well with the face. I think the hair should be more defined though. It sort of gets lost against everything else.
