(It contains some spoiler from the game)
While you are playing the game, there are dozens of hints that the protagonist isn’t able to speak or show emotions, but I gave him voice and expressions anyway. It’s not part of the story, but I can imagine he becoming a really close friend with Quirrel somehow, then they’ve been spending so much time together, that he learns to show his feelings and his real personality.

To be of use, and never again be cast aside... That is Ghost's desire.
His sibling left him, watched him cling to that balcony. His so-called father experimented on him and so many others. He was made with intent of purpose he could never truly fulfill... With this yearning, this desire, he could never truly be a "pure and empty" vessel. So instead... he turned to helping those bugs he could, once he finally escaped the abyss...
But through the final solution, through destroying the Radiance, he seems doomed to lose himself completely in a dark void given form and focus.
The silent Ghost has gained a voice at last... and all he can do is curse his fate and scream, even as he saves those few whom still dwell in Hallownest. But they are worth it. From the shopkeepers, to the Elderbug, to naive Bretta, that filthy liar Zote, to Quirrel and Hornet and that poor miner-bug that lost her mind to the infection...
"THEY ARE WORTH IT TO ME!"
... Or this is just the rambling interpretations of a commentator that loves your Hollow Knight fanart and my words should be taken with a grain of salt.

Hmmmmmm... if we were going by Kingdom Hearts logic, and the fact that Hollow Knights are supposed to be empty vessels meant to contain the plague's source (aka the Radiance), then in your idea HK learning to show feelings could very well be... growing a heart on his own.
I suppose Hornet has a heart but feels too restricted to acknowledge this fact

heyo, i just really like how you draw this character and i wanted to ask if it would be ok to use your interpretation of him in a sculpture i want to make for my brother's birthday?
he loves the game and i think that just sculpting the original would be to simple and i would love to challenge myself, i also fell in love with the way you draw him and your style seems to fit the game's atmosphere perfectly.
if its not ok an you don't agree i understand and i will not use your version of the character, i decided asking you and getting your approval first before starting to sketch concepts for the thing just to not be able to use them.

I like characters with a bit more personality, even silent ones can be quiet expressive if their creators allow it, but I understand why Hollow Knight is the way he is but I do enjoy your interpretation of him.
