Description A fanart I made of Karura-ou from the RG Veda manga by CLAMP. I made this for the CLAMP fanbook project on LJ, and I wish I'd had more time to work with it (I started far too late), but still, I'm happy that I was able to participate. Karura is one of my favorite RG Veda characters, and there is far too little fanart of her out there. :]

Aww, I was eager to see it here on DA too!
You did a great work, the colors are so bright and her hair so wonderfully done!

I don't personally like her character too much - I mean, it's a beautiful character, but it's not the nicest one for me - but I agree, there's too little fan arts of her and of RG Veda female characters in general..

Thank you! I was a bit hesitant to using such light colors at first, but in the end it was good practice.

I like all the RG Veda female characters (well, except for a few, perhaps), but Karura is the one I felt most strongly for while reading the story. I think it's because of what happened to her and her sister, I'm always moved so easily by sibling love, haha.

Oh, so wonderful! It looks great; I love the hair, and the shading, her eyes… its very powerful and the calm cold colours fits her very well. She is a wonderful character, and I agree that there should be more fan art of her. CLAMP must be glad to see this, and I think its good that you picked a not so popular character. I also like the sparkling effects!

YES! YES! YES!
You did it! I'm gonna love you forever
She's so beautiful, her eyes are so deep and her hair is so smooth and touchable... I think I'm in love

Really, kudos to you for spreading the Karura love. Needless to say, I worship her, she's one of my favourite Clamp characters, so proud and strong, I find her amazing beyond all words. Thank you.
And I really do love how you portrait the RG Veda girls - first Kendappa, now Karura...please do some more of them if you feel like it. They all need more love from the fandom, don't they.

Haha, I'm very glad you like it! Thanks a lot for commenting, I'm glad to find more Karura fans out there. <3

Perhaps I should do that. I used to find the RG Veda characters difficult to draw (CLAMP's art style has changed quite a lot since they made the series) but I think I'm getting more used to it now. And it would be fun to draw characters like Ashura and Souma someday.

kinokoe In reply to Zylvana [2009-08-02 18:44:06 +0000 UTC]

You're welcome It's difficult to find a Karura-ou fan, but even more difficult to find a skillful Karura-ou fanartist, so I'm really grateful to you

Well yes, I guess they must be difficult like hell - when RG Veda was created, Clamp were at the peak of their "baroque" style, meaning huge expressive eyes, tones of hair, etc. It must be very hard to imitate. But I'm sure you will make it really fine.
I'm really disappointed I never really got to see my beloved Kujaku drawn by Clamp in TRC style, and Karura appeared only in a few background snapshots in Piffle - I almost wouldn't have recognized her . Even Clamp doesn't seem to give the RG Veda staff enough love...but wait, Souma, Kendappa and Ashura-ou are after all very important part of lives of Kurogane and Fai, aren't they? Whereas Yasha and Ashura got an entire arc for their own...I guess I'm just grumbling as a dissatisfied Kujaku/Karura fan .

Zylvana In reply to kinokoe [2009-08-03 22:49:10 +0000 UTC]

Yes, some RG Veda characters had rather important roles in TRC, but I wish we could have seen more of Karura and Kujaku too. I wonder what Kujaku would have looked like in TRC style, hm...

Haha, I've kind of given up on trying to imitate CLAMP's RG Veda style, so I'm just trying to draw them in my own style instead. I'm really happy that you like it!

kinokoe In reply to Zylvana [2009-08-03 23:43:40 +0000 UTC]

I think Kujaku would look pretty much like a black-haired version of Fai. They're so much alike in many ways, after all, in terms of appearance, but even more as far as personality, or even their story, is concerned...Myst-san suggested that perhaps it's because Kujaku and Fai are so alike that Clamp decided not to include the former in TRC...though I hope it's not the case and there's still a chance we'll get to see him at least in the background flashes, just like the MKR girls a few chapters ago. We got to see each and every one out of the Six Stars in TRC, but not Kujaku, who was the key to the whole story - that's just not fair! Maybe it turns out in the end that Kujaku is a joker here in TRC, just like he was in RG Veda - like, say, that he is Fai's reincarnated father. all right, or maybe it's better this way.

Your own style is great, too - the way you draw hair and eyes is lovely! I hope to see more from you soon, not necessarily RG Veda, although it would be pure love.

Zylvana In reply to kinokoe [2009-08-05 16:53:49 +0000 UTC]

Oh yes, a dark-haired version of Fai, I like that thought. XD Yes, I find it a bit unfair that we haven't seen Kujaku so far in TRC too, but maybe there's still hope, like you say. I'm also hoping that we'll see characters like Suu, Kotori and Hokuto before the story ends, but I don't think the chances for that are very large.

Thank you so much again. <3

kinokoe In reply to Zylvana [2009-08-05 21:01:00 +0000 UTC]

Well, I am not really fond of Kotori, to put it mildly, so I don't exactly cry over her absence in TRC, but have always been a fan of Hokuto and was sort of frustrated when I found out Clamp got rid of her in TRC like that, making Kamui Subaru's sibling instead. Well, I admit I do have a weakness for Clamp twins, be it Fai/Yuui, Subaru/Hokuto, Ashura/Tenou, Freya/Elda, or any other pair, really...
What pains me the most is the utter lack of Wish characters in TRC, given that Wish is one of my top favourites created by Clamp. Well, they say Kobato will cross over with Wish at least in the anime series, which is of some consolation...but only of some, frankly.

Aww, no problem.

Zylvana In reply to kinokoe [2009-08-08 08:10:26 +0000 UTC]

Well, I have many characters that I like more than Kotori too, but I think she would have been really pretty in TRC style. XD Haha, and yes, CLAMP seems to have a weakness for twins too (and clones...).

Yes, the Wish characters have been mentioned in Kobato manga, and it looks like they'll appear in the anime as well. It would have been fun to see them in TRC too, though.

kinokoe In reply to Zylvana [2009-08-08 12:16:08 +0000 UTC]

That's the point, I thought so too, but then I remembered what Kotori looked like in the flashbacks of the last few volumes of X, which are quite close to the TRC style, and she was actually just as bland and as full of cavity-digging sweetnes as ever, so let's hope we didn't miss anything. I must admit I was a little disappointed with Subaru, too...I was expecting a smexy evil-smirking vampire adult version, and all I got was another variation of the TB Subaru-kun, which is obviously sweet, cute and all, but hey, we've seen it all before.

Lately I've seen the covers of the new edition of Wish, drawn in the modern Clamp style - and Lord, they do look fabulous. I hope Clamp will satiate the inner fangirl in me sooner or later.
And there's another thing with Clover - I haven't read the manga yet ( shame on me ), but the characters are beautiful, and I wish we had got to see more of them in TRC than just Oruha. ( I find Lan especially attractive. )

Zylvana In reply to kinokoe [2009-08-11 18:18:12 +0000 UTC]

Haha, Subaru with an evil smirk... for some reason I find that hard to imagine. XD

I agree, CLAMP's new Wish illustrations are very pretty. They make me want to reread the manga, there's a lot I have forgotten from it, I think.

Clover is an amazing series. I wish we would have seen more characters from it in TRC too - I almost expected Suu or perhaps Ran to appear in Infinity (because of those birds being there, I mean) but nope... I'm very glad that we at least got to see Oruha though.

kinokoe In reply to Zylvana [2009-08-11 22:05:09 +0000 UTC]

Me too, that's one of the reasons why I wanted so bad to see it The other one would be, say, pure smex.

I've read Wish numerous times, partly because it's one of the few Clamp titles that were actually published here in Poland, so I was able to purchase it and reach for it whenever I wanted. It's totally worth re-reading, anyway, there are various aspects of the story and the details that you only get to notice when you read very carefully instead of just ruffling through the pages just to find out what happened next.

But Clover isn't finished, is it? It's a wicked Clamp habit not to finish their best works - they did it to X and Gouhou Drug, and after reading the latest chapter of Tsubasa I began to have doubts if they're really going to ever finish it, too.

Zylvana In reply to kinokoe [2009-08-13 19:31:33 +0000 UTC]

Yes, exactly, I tend to read through manga series very quickly (and without paying very much attention to details) when I read them for the first time, just because I'm so impatient to see what will happen next. I have lots of series that I would like to reread for that reason.

Yes, Clover is officially unfinished, but I think CLAMP said that there wouldn't be any continuation to it (at least i think so... I might be wrong about that though). Haha, and yes, it feels like TRC has been stuck at the same spot for ages now, but hopefully it won't be put on hiatus, at least. There would be an army of raging fangirls invading Japan if that happened, I think.

kinokoe In reply to Zylvana [2009-08-14 23:15:41 +0000 UTC]

I must say that truly only after I had re-read Wish did I discover much of its value. I didn't have to focus that much on the main storyline anymore, so I could appreciate the subplots and the details, and those were exquisite!

Well, it's Clamp we're talking about, they could as well put all their current works on hiatus and continue Clover within a 20-volume clone-themed series I'm being cynical, but I don't really mind, the tempo of the latest Tsubasa volumes is getting on my nerves - actually nothing new or groundbreaking has happened ever since they entered the Clow country, it's all been a constant rewind and retrospection since then...At least we got to see adult mama!Sakura and papa!Syao, but that's not enough of a consolation, especially when I'm not their biggest fan. Sigh.
