# About me
☪ "Bir kere yukselen bayraq, bir daha enmez!" ☪
Name: Republic of Azerbaijan (Azərbaycan Respublikası)
Human Name: Harika Natavan (( Harika means “wonderful” in Turkish and Azerbaijani while Natavan means “powerless” in Persian and is a reference to Khurshidbanu Natavan who was the daughter of Mehdi Gulu-khan, and who was the last ruler of the Karabakh khanate (1748–1822). ))
Birthday: August 30 (Date of Independence from the USSR.)
Age: 18 (Human years.)
Gender: Female
Hair Color: Long, slightly curled in places, and brown, usually worn down and hanging over her shoulders. She also has a strange tuft of hair on the upper left hand (her right) side of her head which represents Bazarduzu Dagi which is the highest point in Azerbaijan (4,466 m) and is part of the Great Caucasus Mountains. It also acts as a erogenous zone merely for the lulz.
Eye Color: A light grayish blue color.
Height: 157 cm (5’2” est.)
❥ Character Description:
Azerbaijan usually wears a long, blue, feminine military coat which sports silver buttons along with a gold belt. She also wears thigh high black boots and white leggings. She also sports a two black hair pins in her hair.
❥ Other Information:
Azerbaijan has two siblings, Georgia and Armenia .
Azerbaijan tends to appear as being quite reserved and soft spoken in nature, however she can have quite a bit of a temper, which can be easily seen if she is ever in contact with Armenia.
If Armenia and Azerbaijan are even in the same room together, it’s almost impossible for the two not to have an argument of some kind if/when the two start to talk.
When it comes to Armenia, Azerbaijan can be quite immature.
If you were to ask Azerbaijan about Armenia, she would say that she despises Armenia to her very core, after all they have fought against each other in a few wars and are still technically in one.
. . . however, Azerbaijan tends to enjoy antagonizing Armenia as much as Armenia does to her...
Azerbaijan is very bitter about the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict which has been ongoing with Armenia who has occupied the breakaway Nagorno-Karabakh enclave. Azerbaijan has lost around 20% of her territory because of this and has to support 800,000 refugees and displaced people as a result. Hatred against Armenia runs very high. In fact if a person’s passport shows any evidence of travel to Nagorno-Karabakh, they are forbidden from entering the country.
While a large amount of Azerbaijan’s population is Shiite Muslim (Nearly 95%!), Azerbaijan herself is actually a strictly secular state and is non-religious.
She likes pomegranates. A lot. There is actually a Pomegranate Festival in Azerbaijan during October.
Azerbaijan won the Eurovision in 2011.
Azerbaijan used to get quite nervous when Russia was around or brought into conversation due to bad occurrences between the two in the past, surprisingly however, relations between the two nations as of late are quite friendly and close. ( Although Russia/his boss has tried to take advantage of the large amount of oil resources in Azerbaijan... )
While Azerbaijan does not exactly enjoy fighting, she tends to be a bit of a sore loser when it comes to things like war…
Azerbaijan is also a member of GUAM (Organization for Democracy and Economic Development) along with Georgia, Ukraine, and Moldova.
❥ Short History Lesson:
After Russia incorporated the lands of the khanates into his the lands of Azerbaijan also came under his rule in 1813.
Russian rule over Azerbaijan was first recognized by the Persians under the Treaty of Turkmenchey.
After the collapse of the Russian Empire during World War I, Azerbaijan, together with Armenia and Georgia became part of the short-lived Transcaucasian Democratic Federative Republic.
When the republic dissolved in May 1918, Azerbaijan declared independence as the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic (ADR).
After becoming the ADR she was the first democratic and secular republic in the Muslim world...
. . . however she was re-incorporated as one of the founding members of the Soviet Union a mere two years later.
Azerbaijan did not give up her independence very easily however.
By March 1920, it was obvious that Soviet Russia would attack the much-needed Baku (Azerbaijan's capital).
Independent Azerbaijan lasted only 23 months until the Bolshevik 11th Soviet Red Army invaded it, establishing the Azerbaijan SSR on April 28, 1920.
Although the bulk of the newly formed Azerbaijan army was engaged in putting down an Armenian revolt that had just broken out in Karabakh, Azeris did not surrender their brief independence of 1918–20 quickly or easily.
As many as 20,000 Azerbaijani soldiers died resisting what was effectively a Russian reconquest. (Azerbaijan also has a scar from this, it is about three inches long and goes down her left shoulder blade.)
On October 13, 1921, the Soviet republics of Russia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Georgia signed an agreement with Turkey known as the Treaty of Kars.
During World War II, Azerbaijan played a crucial role in the strategic energy policy of Soviet Union, with most of the Soviet Union's oil on the Eastern Front being supplied by Baku.
By the Decree of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR in February 1942, the commitment of more than 500 workers and employees of the oil industry of Azerbaijan was awarded orders and medals.
A fifth of Azerbaijanis fought in the Second World War from 1941 to 1945.
Approximately 681,000 people with over 100,000 of them being women went to the front, while the total population of Azerbaijan was 3.4 million at the time.
Following the politics of glasnost, initiated by Mikhail Gorbachev, civil unrest and ethnic strife grew in various regions of the Soviet Union, including Nagorno-Karabakh, a region of the Azerbaijan SSR.
The disturbances in Azerbaijan, in response to Moscow's indifference to already heated conflict, resulted in calls for independence and secession, which culminated in Black January in Baku.
In December 1989, Azerbaijanis living in regions bordering Iran ripped down border fences, demanding closer ties with ethnic Azerbaijanis living in Iran.
On January 9, 1990, the Supreme Soviet of the Armenian SSR voted to include Nagorno-Karabakh in its budget and allowed its inhabitants to vote in Armenian elections, thus disregarding Soviet authority and Azerbaijani jurisdiction and causing rage throughout Azerbaijan.
This led to demonstrations which demanded the ousting of Azerbaijani communist officials and called for independence from the Soviet Union. Their rhetoric was, according to a Human Rights Watch report, "heavily anti-Armenian".
On January 12, the Popular Front organised a national defence committee with branches in factories and offices in Baku to mobilise people for battle with Armenians.
Azerbaijani authorities also ordered the 12,000-strong Interior Ministry troops to abstain from intervening in the Baku riots and numerous Soviet army and fleet units of the Baku garrison and Caspian Flotilla did not intervene to stop the riots, claiming that they had no orders from Moscow authorities. On the 13th of January, massive anti-Armenian pogroms started which resulted in ninety deaths, while thousands fled or were evacuated by the Soviet military.
Late at night on January 19, 1990, after blowing up of the central television station and termination of phone and radio lines by Soviet special forces, 26,000 Soviet troops entered Baku, smashing through the barricades in order to crush the Popular Front. As claimed by Mikhail Gorbachev, gunmen of the Azerbaijani National Front opened fire on the soldiers; however, findings of the Moscow-based non-governmental organisation Shield found no evidence of "armed combatants of Azerbaijani Popular Front", which had been used as a motive to crush the civilian population on January 20.
In the course of the storming, the troops attacked the protesters, firing into the crowds. The shooting continued for three days. They acted pursuant to a state of emergency, which continued for more than 4 months afterward, declared by the Praesidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR, signed by President Mikhail Gorbachev. The state of emergency was, however, disclosed to the Azerbaijani public only several hours after the beginning of the offensive, when many citizens already lay dead or wounded in the streets, hospitals and morgues of Baku.
Almost the whole population of Baku turned out to bury the dead on the third day - January 22. For another 40 days, the country stayed away from work as a sign of mourning and mass protest.
Black January is seen as the rebirth of the Azerbaijan Republic.
Later in 1990, the Supreme Council of the Azerbaijan SSR dropped the words "Soviet Socialist" from the title, adopted the Declaration of Sovereignty of the Azerbaijan Republic and restored flag of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic as a state flag.
On 18 October 1991, the Supreme Council of Azerbaijan adopted a Declaration of Independence which was affirmed by a nationwide referendum in December 1991, when the Soviet Union was officially dissolved.
The early years of independence were overshadowed by the Nagorno-Karabakh War with neighboring Armenia.
By the end of hostilities in 1994, Armenia occupied up to 16 percent of Azerbaijani territory, including Nagorno-Karabakh itself.
An estimated 30,000 people had been killed and more than a million had been displaced.

It was the afternoon, a time of the day where the sky had warm colors, faded clouds, and the sun beginning to disappear. Libya came out of the door, saying goodbye to other countries, rather in a tired way. She sighed continuing to put her hand inside her pocket, looking forward, moving both feet up, down, to down, up. It kept repeating the same routine.
"Finally, work is finished. I could use a bit of a nap." She yawned, stretching her arms, making a slight crack sound. Putting hands behind head, Libya notices a girl with brown hair, blue dress, and black boots. Making a garbled look, as she thought to herself,
'What? Who is she? I've never seen her before..'

"Azerbaijan! A-Azerbaijan!" Luxembourg hurried over to the other nation, a wide and almost uncharacteristically big grin plastered on her face.

The Azeri blinked as she heard her name called, which wasn't a very often occurrence for her these days, she turned around to face the person who she recognized to be Luxembourg and smiled a little bit, "Ah, salam Luxembourg!" She looked over her for a moment, noting the happy air and smile gracing her features which was a nice sight to see, "What brings you all the way to Baku?" She inquired, curious as to what brought her all the way here.

"O-Oh I tried to call earlier." She said with a light laugh. "S-Sorry to come so unannounced l-Like this! Anyway, y-You want to...Hang out?" She asked, calming down so she wasn't so hyper sounding like she was a couple seconds ago.

Harika was on her typical stroll that she went on daily, which she hadn't been able to do as of late due to the eight day long celebration of Novruz which had finally ended a few days ago. Which was a bit sad that she couldn't see all of her people smiling in the capital until the next festival which was not to be held for a several more months to her disappointment. Her eyes wandered from the people in the streets to the vendors and cars that were being loaded with fruit to the brim which was a typical sight, unfortunately she didn't notice the black haired nation-tan who ended up colliding into her the impact made her stumbling a bit, eyes going wide and face flushing red with embarrassment, "M-Məni bağışlayın!" She exclaimed, giving a flustered slight bow of her head.

The Azeri lifted her head up a bit slowly and shook her head a bit rapidly, face still dusted with red, "Oh, no, I wasn't paying attention to where I was going, it's just as much my fault as it might be yours." She tugged at her clothing nervously, finding herself knees deep in anguish and embarrassment.
