Thanks for stopping by my gallery, I enjoy finding "local" if Fairbanks is local considering I'm in Palmer people.
You've some really nice photos in your gallery.

hi,
what will be the best time to witness auroras where you live? what is a good time to visit the place you live in ?
it looks beautiful

It's possible to see the aurora from about August 15th until April 1st. It doesn't get dark enough in April, May, June and July, but those are the warm months. Also, the sun has an 11 year cycle from high active to low, then back to high. We've been at the low point, so the aurora will be more active and frequent in a year or two from now. When it's at the high point, there is usually some sort of aurora every night or two and lots of good displays. So the best time to visit depends on what you'd like to see. Green scenery, warm weather and wildlife are best viewed in the summer. The aurora in the winter or spring months, but fall is decent too.

Hi Shay,
Bit over a month late getting back to you, but I'd like to thank you for featuring my work in your journal. It's an honor to have my work grouped with the caliber of art pieces you chose to feature.
Thank you again and I hope all is well!

I would really pay for a large print of some of your photos. Do you plan to sell any?

ArcticSolitude In reply to Gadian [2009-05-31 07:41:16 +0000 UTC]
I've actually been thinking about doing so for quite a while now, especially with some of my personal favorites. I've also been toying with the idea of putting together a book at some point. As far as prints, if you have requests for prints, let me know which ones call to you the most and I'll see what I can do.

Hey thanks for the watch I love your gallery. You know I grew up in Alaska, Ft. Wainwright. It's beautiful up there, I miss it...

Such a small world! Seems Ft. Wainwright has grown a bit over the last few years, along with Fairbanks itself, so you may not even recognize it if you saw it today. Anyhow, sorry it took so long to get a reply out, I've been out away from all traces of civilization for the past 7 weeks doing geological work. Thanks for the commetns and the add!

Thank you for the !!! Your gallery is fabulous! Do you subscribe to the "Aurora Forecast "?

ArcticSolitude In reply to Line-of-Birds [2007-09-27 21:38:21 +0000 UTC]
I do check the aurora forecast, but use it only as a guideline. What I do is call up the
"Magnetometer Chain " and compare the live data to what I see out the window. I've often found that it gives 5-15 minute warnings in which to get the camera set up. I'm still learning how to read the squiggles, but it definitely does help.

Check my scraps for a capture of the mag' graph from last night. I've made notes on it as to when the sky was active. The display was fantastic considering all the moonlight.
