My name is DaniΓ«l Hasenbos, freelance cartographer living in Utrecht, the Netherlands. I want to share my creativity, to mapo a world that was not visible to others. That way people can venture into a world they could have never imagined. I believe that beautiful maps can bring a world to life in a way words alone can not.# Comments

I notice youβre from the Netherlands!Β
Iβve always been fascinated with that placeβs history and culture. I stopped there for about an hour when I was on a European tour and Iβve always wished we could have stayed longer! I would love to ride in one of those canals!
Β
I found that a lot of people here in the U.S. donβt know much about their own country, much
less anyone else's.Β
Β
I post prayer updates about different countries. Part of the reason is to raise awareness about what's going on in the rest of the world.
Β
Recently Iβve started my own private initiative; if I notice someone on DAΒ is from another country, if I've done their country I let them know. Itβs my way of letting them know that others are thinking about their home.
Β
This update is about your home!

Hey! I think we actually met once at a convention, you showed me your work on your phone and I showed you my attempt of a mapΒ sta.sh/21yt4nmdx5u5 on mine and when I stumbled on a map of yours on here, It seemed familiar !
I could have gotten you confused with someone else, in that case, sorry haha! Your work is really awesome <3

Speaking of a late reply Thanks, but I don't remember going to a convention, so I doubt it's me that you saw there. But your map looks nice ^^

Welcome to the steampunk-artists group, your steampunk stuff welcome, as with all groups it is essential that you read the rules and familarise yourself with the folders, we are very strict with submissions going into the right place and being of the right quality. Commercial offerings will be allowed but only into the correct folder and only when limited in number. We must draw your attention to the fact that anime and cartoon style submissions are strongly discouraged as this group is concerned with non-juvenile forms of art. Despite all the rules - please do enjoy submitting.

Hi Daniel! I was just wondering, what programs (and brushes?) do you use to make your maps? Your lines look very smooth and crisp, kind of like a real ink pen.
Wonderful work by the way! I really love your maps!

Hey Oseviel, I make my maps with Photoshop. I only use the basic round brush to make my maps. For the grungy effect of the ocean I use a brush from the 'Wet Media Brushes' set called 'Rough Ink'. I set that brush to 25% opacity with pressure sensitivity for opacity and 25% flow with airbrush effect turned on. Other that that everything is just the aforementioned round brush (: Hope it's any help (:

That helps a lot, thank you so much! If you don't mind me asking another question though, what resolutions do you work with?
π: 0 β©: 1
DanielHasenbos In reply to Oseviel [2017-11-28 14:38:23 +0000 UTC]
That varies per map, and the required size. Maps for books are often A5 size. At 300dpi that is 1748x2480pixels. The maps that I post here are often 50% of the actual resolution. Sometimes 33% if the map is particularly large, or 66% when a map is already small.Β

Thank you Daniel for the answers! Your maps are very inspiring so I really wanted to ask some about your process. I appreciate your answers.

I believe you should apply your SWTOR ship layouts to Bioware and EA. I believe many player would welcome the designs, as they are actually making more sense.
