Although I might challenge you that in the study of metaphysics we come, if only a little, to understand God's most fundamental similarity to us, "being."
It is the case the He and us "are" but Him perfectly so and we, having come from 'nothingness,' are different also. A soul is not "scientifically" verifiable because science nowadays really means "physical observation." But, notice very quickly how this method comes to be: it tries to find the smallest part, and the parts of those parts, and when they discover them they will have knowledge of how exactly a whole thing works, even you!
That being said, we can't be reduced to our parts. An important misstep science takes is that it believes itself to be true and comprehensive. Yet, if we are a collection of parts (for example), how is it that those parts form together men who want to know how those parts work? If it is to improve ourselves, why do we say nature works like a machine on its own?
For the soul, as with ideas and thoughts, these things can't be weighed, touched, etc. but rather their presences are felt in how they manifest themselves in matter and reality.
I think this is an important philosophical point.
Since you have a sharp mind, I hope you can, in the future, criticize me as well, as I think it behooves us, especially as Catholics, to be rigorous about our faith and about our academics (and everything, really).
