Hallo, Mr.Gordon...
You might already know, but I'll just post it here anyways...
LFA is doing the Remembrance Day exhibition and it's opening on Thursday, Nov. 5th from 7:00 to 9:00 pm.
It continues until Monday, December 7th and it's being held in the Mary Pratt Gallery inside the school.
So, yeah. If you don't really have much to do, which I doubt since teachers seem like really busy people, then here's something that may interest you.

Hey Mr.G,
So it just happens that I completely forgot about deviantart.com. Sad isn't it? How are things going? I'm loving the newest editions. Classes weren't bad. I quite enjoyed them, although frustrating at times. I've got my TESOL Certification now too. Just so that I can travel, teach and learn all at the same time haha. Anyhow! I'll probably end up stopping by at some point, like I always do at the beginning of the year.

Holy Cow Mr. G! I finally got around to reading (cover to cover) the art book you recommended: "Drawing the Line" by Micheal Baldwin and I am seriously impressed! I felt almost like I had heard a lot of what he was saying from you or other artists, but just from a completely different view point. I seriously thank you for suggesting this book!

Hey Mr Gordon! How's your summer going?
I have a quick little question, you see this summer I'm going to spend a paycheck on art stuff, and I got thinking about how I need a place to put all my stuff. So I thought how Josh and Jakob had their stuff in a fishing box. So... I have this pretty psychadellic design going on and I was wondering if it would be possible to use the whole photo transfer process onto a fishing box?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Giraffeman In reply to Random-Speck [2009-07-30 23:54:05 +0000 UTC]
you could make a decal and apply it to the box with clear medium. I'm not sure how well it would adhere. The decal process is multi layers of gloss medium (9) or so on the paper of choice on a sheet of glass so you can lift it off. When said decal is dry lift off the glass and soak the back to get rid of the paper. You should end up with a clear decal you can then apply. Or just see me in my classroom in Sept and I would be overjoyed to assist you in your debauchery and schemes.

Ah exciting! I am so jealous, I wish I was in Thailand right now! Do say hello to Ms. Kidd and also Jakob for me if you get a chance : ). Thank you, lots of work but I am so excited for the future. I am hoping to possibly apply to Parsons in New York for a Masters degree after grad. I don't know, who knows what I will want in 3 years, buttttt that's what I am currently working towards. No no, you just rock! I will swing by after the following monday, whenever my hectic homework load slows down... end of semester is coming and I am in a little over my head (as per usual).

Hi Mr Gordon
I don't use deviantart much for other than keeping track of my friend's art, so you'll have to excuse me if I'm a slow responder.
I'm in my last year at ACAD right now, majoring in Visual Communications, illustration stream. Since the program my body has probably aged 10 years from stress and sleep loss.
I feel sort of old aside from that too!

Mr. Gordon
Please tell me there is a point to art school and that it isn't what it looks like-just mass producing quickly made crafts like kindergarten all over again
Or just quit being a highschool teacher and bring your excellent teaching to post secondary.

Giraffeman In reply to Kombucha-clocks [2008-12-05 23:01:19 +0000 UTC]
I guess it depends on the art school one attends. It is designed to build ones skills and I would guess that you are already above the ability of many of your peers. Take heart the challenges will come as the years progress. And if they don't, start looking at other programs at other institutions. (you will note the "i" word ) it does describe many of post secondary education's shortfalls.

Well, I'm sticking it out because I got a bursary/scholarship deal to emily carr. It's tough at this school because the teacher for all of the fine art stuff is a sculptor, so all the stuff we do is sculpture with almost no 2d work. Yes, not to be full of myself I'm probably the best life drawer/pencil artist in the class, but it helps me for not because I'm also the most impatient, crappiest sculptor
I'm coming down for christmas, I think school will be out, but we should do coffee!

Hey little D. Great to hear that you are going to get those creative juices flowing again and have a place to pour them out. Summer has been crazy with a successful summer show and 3 commissions. School is way to close to starting... where did those days of summer go? Keep in touch and I look forward to seeing you post some artwork soon.

Hey Mr.G
I know..I'm so excited to start drawing and painting again..and learning more ways to express myself. Ah
That's amazing! Omg, I wish I could take part in art shows, that would be amazing!! Summer passed by so quickly. It's depressing. Oh well, soon enough it'll be back . Anywho, yeah...I'll eventually post art work...and receive criticism. Question, I have no idea what some of my classes will be like, it's so stressful.
Have a good first day of school.

hey glad you found me. Are you painting lots. I have a full day workshop going on through the Fort gallery on Aug. 10 called Art Farm. If you are interested pass by the Fort Gallery and get a registration form. I think its $80 for the whole day and the setting is a horse farm in south Langley. Very cool place to paint.
