first i have to unwrap the faces, which is done usualy by creatng seams that makr areas you want to be flattened seperately, when tha tis done and you unwrap it you have what is basicly a stencil cutout of your models faces, which gets more complex as you add more faces, then you have to draw on those faces like an artboard, and with only gimp, texturing is difficult but in the days i have waiting for STO full version to come out im gona finish up the model for the frigate then im gona try to texture it

hey, when you bump map your textures in photoshop, is it a static thing? or can photoshop make 3d light sensitive bump maps?

i do them static. i'm not sure if photoshop can do semthing like that. i guess you mean normal maps, right? there's a plugin from nvidia with which you can convert greyscale bump maps into normal maps, but i don't know it's name.
