An old friend from Seaford got a tattoo from you today Shaun.
So I've used his photo of the tattoo to help promote you and told him to spread the word.

Just remember my 18th is coming up in December and I'm your sister. ...

Random retarded question, is there a way to make a tattoo look "chrome"? (aside from blue and brown? Which is the only way I know how to do it...) Thanks for dealing with my stupidity....

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

InkSlinger5 In reply to Awayformetobleed [2010-04-18 11:31:22 +0000 UTC]

No such thing as stoopid questions... um.. yea, the old Blu sky / Brown land aviator metal shine is always good for old skool stuff but as for realism.. i'm not too sure. Maybe a monochrome grey style (as in actual grey not black cut with water "greywash") with bright whitelights? What where u guna apply it to?

Awayformetobleed In reply to InkSlinger5 [2010-04-21 00:40:44 +0000 UTC]

A scorpion, he wants it to look chrome/polished steal... And I keep telling him chrome is blue-brown, and he argues. Now take into consideration he's not an artist, but it is going on his skin, which is why I've been so forgiving, and haven't done it on him yet till we can come up with something he likes--looks wise, but I'm running out of pig skin... And well, yeah... Thanks.

G'day mate havn't been on-line in a while so sorry for the late reply. Awesome deisgn idea, really diggin it! Price wise it's hard to gauge without seein how big you want it. We base on $125 p/hr. So if you can come down the shop to have a consult would be the best idea. we are 138 Main Road Mclaren Vale. or call 8232 7854 to arrange it further. cheers dude...

No worries dude, Awesome stuff. Really impressed by your realism. Any chacne you could check out my stuff, give me some tips? I know i gotta pump in more black, darken my tones. Just playin safe i guess. lol thanks.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

KevinStiles In reply to InkSlinger5 [2009-07-23 19:23:33 +0000 UTC]

yup, checked out your stuff - not bad, dude. the one thing that seems to stand out to me as far as being critical...and that would be -
your outlining. if your goal is realism, then, you need to approach the images with little or no outlining. if you outline, then it should be a light gray so that it doesn't stand out. strong, or dark outlines tend to kill the effect of realism.
yeah, the whole thing on values...using more blacks - that is true, but you also need the whole range in between...you can't leave so much natural skin - even a light gray value will help achieve a more fully developed piece.
hope some of my words have helped.

peace - kevin

InkSlinger5 In reply to KevinStiles [2009-07-26 01:30:18 +0000 UTC]

Thanks for the tips bro, will certinally push myself to get the whole mid range tones in there. don't wanna push my luck but and pointers on that smooth as silk fading? Iv'e been tryin out Joshua Carlton's (filip lou's) style with a cut back shader and Brandon bonds idea of turnin ur machine way down and not stretchin the skin as much to get those subtle tones but still find i'm gettin a little peppering or weak(or too strong) tones. Being the better realism artist at my shop fell like i've hit a wall. Thanks for ur time, much appreciated.

KevinStiles In reply to InkSlinger5 [2009-07-27 02:03:07 +0000 UTC]

i don't know what to tell you, dude. i build up slow...so as to not go too dark too quickly. unless i know the area (like hair, for example) is going to be very dark or black.
and i always stretch the skin - i just feel the skin needs to be as taut as possible - like the head of a drum. i find when it's not stretched you're going to run in to problems...working areas too much in order to achieve the look you're trying to get. i will do some final shading - say, in extremely tight areas or on a face - with a liner...and work very carefully to make the final gradations smooth out even more.
