I also love LKH's Anita Blake but only recently stopped liking that series starting with Incubus Dreams (didn't finish it.)
Have you read Kim Harrison's books?

I haven't read any of Kim Harrison's books is she a similar horror fantasy writer? LKH's writing style with the series has definately changed a lot but her next book (not Danse Macabre) is supposed to be back to more of a detective storyline with Edward making a comeback so I stick around to see if it gets back a little of its edge.

Maybe I'll wait for that next book, before I finish the last 20% of Incubus and also Danse Macabre so it doesn't seem so bad 
Kim Harrison? She's a very similar writer, only a bit more humorous. I think she's a big fan of LKH too (she's pictured next to LKH at a book signing on her site). Similar subject matter, ie modern-day witchcraft, weres, vampires, fairies & pixies (of the miniscule variety) etc., though she definitely makes it her own. The protaganist is a witch. It's a different take on the general subject for sure. I love the Hollows books. I know two other Anita Blake fans that would say the thing. So I guess it's likely you'd like them too.

The series actually does sound very appealing especially the genre and female supernatural lead I'll have to check it out at the library so thank you for the recommendation. I'd recommend Danse Macabre over Incubus Dreams as I was disappointed with it as well due to the lack of a real villian although Danse Macabre still has a certain strong ardeur tone their are a lot of new characters and situations introduced that make it more appealing and a better pace than the Incubus Dreams.
