# About me

"When you reach the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on!" FDR
I started tying knots as a Girl Scout and haven't stopped. In the fall of 2014 I was desperate for a challenging new artistic outlet and mapped out about a hundred knots I couldn't imagine being able to tie. Now I can tie them all and some from memory alone. DeviantArt has provided me with much food for the imagination, and a couple very challenging maps to tie.

Btw. how much would you charge for a piece like the one on your avatar picture? (your website link is not working, therefore I could not have a look myself). Have a lovely evening (btw: Peter-The-Knotter likes your work, too! )

My profile pic knot is for sale, I would accept $150 for it. I wrapped the center piece with recycled telephone wire, it took much longer than using thread. A piece identical to this but wrapped in thread would be $50 + $3 per color so $68 I will post a photo of them side by side now.

It is good that you know what you art is worth! My work sadly takes so long, I cannot sell the pieces for a reasonable amount of money, because hardly anybody can understand how long it really takes.

sigh, there is always someone on the internet who can do things better than you... I'm glad you fav'ed one of my pieces ("Forest Knot", although it wasn't an original design by me. Practicing coloring if I recall correctly) so I could see your gallery. I've wanted to learn this style of physical knot tying for a while so I could maybe tie one of my originally designed knots like this. It's much more challenging than it looks. I was a Boy Scout for a while and learned basic knots like the clove hitch, two half hitch, bowline, etc. I then learned how to design and draw Celtic knots. Then I got into origami and learned an appreciation for paper. After THAT I found some stuff called Mizuhiki, or paper cord, while at an origami shop. What better way to merge my two art styles? Paper meets Celtic knots! Hoo boy, do I need some practice. The problem with getting older is you find more and more cool things to play with only to find you wasted your time earlier not practicing all the cool stuff with every waking moment.
I digress... Your gallery is amazing and you've put your practice to good use. I really want to recommend finding some mizuhiki cord to try but I really do love that you're recycling old material into works of art. Telephone wire? Really? You'll have plenty of practice material... And if you're knoting up vines, that's a step away from basic basket weaving with grass. You've just started your dA account and it looks like you're off to a wonderful start. I'm be looking forward to seeing what you accomplish. There are plenty of challenges out there awaiting you; as I said before, there is always someone better out there on the internet. Good luck!

Thanks much! I never expected to actually be able to tie these knots. It took about 3 months just to make the maps. Then I used cork board and thumb tacks as a guide/helper. If you like I can post a couple simple maps for you to practice tying. You already get the over-under part. Using the maps is like learning another language, but once your eyes adjust it blossoms like a flower.
