Well I think it's partly genetic. My parents are both artists, also I began to draw when I was 9 and became kind of obsessive about it doing it for a few years. I couldn't draw realistically though, then I read "Drawing with the Right Side of the Brain" and learned to draw only what I see, exactly as I see it which helped a lot. I then did pictures of people and gridded them so I'd get the proportions right. About a year or so after due to a busy schedule I dropped drawing altogether. I got back to it 3 years ago to find that somehow I didn't need the grid anymore and was drawing better than ever O.o Pretty weird, right?

I would, it helps to keep the proportions. Also if you focus only on drawing exactly what you see in each square the squares add up to make the drawing. The more you do it, the more you become acquainted with proportions, and the grid won't be necessary. I would definitely recommend the book though, it has good exercises to improve your drawing skills

Go for it, but make sure to post your stuff! I want to see your improvement I looked at your gallery and it's not bad at all! If you work on it enough, you will be really great. Drawing, like anything else is all in perseverance, and practice
