Heh, this fucker put some hard work in his stuff... I remember his early works from Ghost Rider 2099, etc. Those work don't come even close to the quality of his present drawing and paintings.
I wish he could spare some more time on comic or painting than toy area.

Anyway, your work is great and I like things that are made raw - for me this is finished work.

Yeah I like my painting rough too. But to get work, it's harder that way. But as you showed Ashley made it work. And as for comics they are so hard to do. It's the most beautiful thing for me, when done right...sadly it's not good pay for artist. So that's probably why he can't do them anymore. He can earn more then he ever will with all the hard work he would put in a comics, and when you need to actually live of your art. It's not an easy decision even when you love it.

Yup, you're right. People are used to polished, shiny shit... don't get me wrong, I appreciate fine looking drawing/painting but it's shame that loose(but also dynamic) stuff like Wood have less attention. Sometimes when artists on devaintart(nort only) are posting their stuff and claiming that's only sketch I'm just astound... wtf, it's like it should be and it's finished.
I'm not so much in comic nowadays(more like art books) but comic is my background, i've raised on this and I loved it for many year but now I see that many releases are shallow... when art is awesome then story is fucked and vice versa. It also include Ashley - he's great artist but weak storyteller, It looks like his writing is just excuse for art but anyway I like it, because his art is awesome.
Anyway, he can and he is releasing plenty of comic stuff but mostly on Japanese market(he is worshipped in there).

yeah, i mostly call everything sketches that isn't commercial work i guess. Just because that way, i don't have to think up a name and it makes the process easy. That doesn't mean i didn't spent a lot of time on some of them. But if i didn't, it's ok. It's all about letting go i guess. If it's a sketch, i can live with it being not as good as i want it to be. If it's finished, then i feel i have to face the fact it could be better etc...

About story's or art. It's hard because honestly writing is hard. It's at least as hard a skill as painting. But an good artist wants to make something pretty. I know i want to make art that i like. Most writer just want their story to be told and don't really care if the art is the best in the world. Faster is usually better from a writers perspective. And artists think, well if the art is bad, then why don't you write a book instead. But yeah, comic books are hard because, sometimes the story is more important then the picture and sometimes you just want to make nice pictures.

I didn't know he still made comics...now i wish i could buy them somewhere. Are they on amazon?

I have some artists in my favourites that are labeling their stuff as sketch and damn, it's polished enough to consider it as finished piece... anyway I have this, let's call it philosophy and I claim that every piece is as it should be(some kind of a zen shit) but in other side there is this thing that is pushing you to improve - sometimes I'm stoping myself because I can work on one piece over and over, and there is always something to change(I'm not talking about my gallery, because there is many mediocre stuff and I have plenty better but unfinished stuff).
As I said earlier, I'm not so much into comics anymore but I have some artist that I always check and from time to time I'm buying some comics - right now I'm wondering about Bendis and Maleev run on Daredevil,  because I like Maleev dirty styl and it seems that also Bendis writing is very solid.
One of my last purchases was Rodd Racer by Toby Cypress - story isn't fancy but Toby's art is fucking awesome, it reminds me Paul Pope style but more polished, detailed and dynamic. There is also his artbook but I can't get in Europe - in Us it"s priced for something around 25$ but shipping is killing me... 20$ for shipment into Poland.

I haven't seen any of Ashley stuff on amazon but I assume those are some shorts for magazines, etc. There was Adventure Kartel HC release but it also seems like gathered shorts that was included in toy boxes with Adventure Kartel series - it seems awesome and is printed in premium format but the price is shitty, especially for 100 pages.

Recently I've bought some of his japanese edtion artbook called Zawa Zawa Treasured Art Of Ashley Wood... nice book but format is too small to appreciate every detail. There is also coming new artbook called just Ashley Wood HC - over 600 pages of art, nice format and quite good price.

I think that every piece can be pushed more. But there just comes a time when the artist hits it's own limit. You can push...but there comes a point where you're making it worse. That's were i stop.

As for comics. I tried to keep up at one point...but now it's to hard. I still read mangas, but only the ones that i have allready started since i can't have a unfinished series at home. But that's it. sometimes i by some bande déssinée. Like balck sad or schuiten and peeters who are just to good not to buy. But it's hard to know in advance if the story will be worth it. So it's hard to invest a lot of money if it's not good.

I didn't think about his instagram...made me decide to get on instagram myself haha. I look him up there now.

yeah that's something i had an issue with too. But now that i use it i've find that it's actually not that big of an problem. I tend to sent my picture anyway by email to check how it looks on other screens, so it's just a matter of  sending it from my phone instead. All the rest you can do on the computer. SO it's actually pretty stupid since the only thing that you can't do on the computer i upload.

haha yeah i took a long time to get on the facebook train too. Might have been a bad career choice. But ethically i just didn't like the whole social network way of doing things. But Ethics go out of the window when you need to promote your stuff.

In my case it's not about ethic side - you don't do anything wrong posting your stuff, you're just bringing your art into light, so you do do what should. I just don't wan't wasting my precious time on social media, but I it's kinda hard to go other way... if there is another way. Also, there's so many idiots out there  My fellow countryman Stanisław Lem(sci-fi writer) said one time: “I hadn't known there were so many idiots in the world until I started using the Internet.”

yeah i don't spend much time on facebook etc either because of the same exact reason. I don't care about that one weird trick that nobody wants you to know about haha.
