MrWitchblade In reply to Princess-Amy [2014-01-05 17:59:16 +0000 UTC]
I saw some of the fireworks from the Sage.
The flashes lit the sky for miles, which was nice.
It was a quiet night though.
Someone posted a video on Youtube, called "Newcastle Fireworks".
(((( or close to ))))
Maybe they don't know which side of the river is which?

MrWitchblade In reply to Princess-Amy [2014-01-13 15:18:33 +0000 UTC]
No, I was some miles away, but has quite a good view.
And no, no photos as I was watching from a window.

No, but then I wasn't at home.
I've been fixing my telescope mount, which would have been
useful on the night
π: 0 β©: 1
Princess-Amy In reply to MrWitchblade [2014-01-15 18:39:44 +0000 UTC]
ooh, what kind of telescope do you have
π: 0 β©: 1
MrWitchblade In reply to Princess-Amy [2014-01-16 19:11:51 +0000 UTC]
4 inchΒ Refractor,
and an 8 inch Reflector. (fullyΒ robotic!)
I had the 4 inch out the other day (ooooh)
and snapped a couple of moon shots, and now I'm making the changes to the mount.
I hope to have it finished and fully tested while we still have the dark nights.
If the tests work. It with them go on the big one. Β (ooooh (again)).
I don't have the money to buy a mount, so I had to make one.
Results will be posted.

Princess-Amy In reply to MrWitchblade [2014-01-23 05:11:05 +0000 UTC]
An 8 inch reflector sounds like it couls pack a bit of power for getting some deeper space objects

MrWitchblade In reply to Princess-Amy [2014-01-23 18:37:30 +0000 UTC]
It does, and the robotic drive makes finding stuff easy.
I can even hook it up to a computer.
This is why I need the mount sorting.
I'll also be able to send the images direct to the computer as well asΒ controllingΒ it

That would be awesome... Is it one of those Meade telescopes?Β I always wanted one when i was younger but they are too expensive
π: 0 β©: 1
MrWitchblade In reply to Princess-Amy [2014-01-26 18:08:04 +0000 UTC]
Meade, yeah
And I had mine bought for me, so I was lucky.
Current price new is about 500 pounds at the cheapest.
In part due to the drive.
You can get the same size scope (without robo-drive)
for about half the price (if lucky)..
But the drive does help a lot.
Even better when it can track objects, turning at the same speed as theΒ
Earth's rotation! Another reason to get the mount done

Princess-Amy In reply to MrWitchblade [2014-01-27 07:02:14 +0000 UTC]
Yeah.Β It's also highly impractical for chuckign on a motorbike and taking it out into the countryside
With the mount though you would be able to get some mint photo's

I have a lighter weight one, which I took up the hills and rested on the roof of the car I had at that time.
At the stage now, where the F-mount metal ring is being made.
1.5mm aluminium.
Coming along nicely

Closer still.
Had to recharge the cordless drill, which I use like a lathe.
Once finished, and checked, it will be screwed and epoxied.
A touch of spray paint on the tube, and then fix it to a spare scope
mount. Β Then, it's test time
Which means clouds for the rest of the year!Β
:/
