Well I don't have an appropriate answer for everyone but some have it so they don't spam their original accounts with things/art/etc that others find annoying or don't want to see alot. For example: say you want to sell adopts right? And your account is filled with fully done traditional or digital art pieces for your personal enjoyment or world building,whatever your into right? If you start selling adoptables and placing them on that account with completed art people will get bored and probably talk to you and tell you this is repetitive or be rude and just flat out say"I don't want to see this!"or"stop making these and continue with real art!"
I've seen many occasions that people bash artist who started doing adopts on their account who did amazing detailed artwork. Even at times I get annoyed seeing adopts when I know the artist do awesome work. Others make side accounts to be tidy,like one for art and another for literature and so on. Like I'm doing now. I love doing art of creatures and doing my head world as well. And my original account is just for that. Now I just got hooked into DracoStryx andTokotas both are arpg groups focusing around their species. With that, it comes with a lot of art, so I made this account that will focus on any ARPG groups. I hope this made you understand a bit(sorry for this wall of Text QAQ) but this is my answer to why I make side accounts and vaguely why others make side accounts. You should ask others this question to see what they think.
