I also have the same problem with drawing from a live model, I'd much rather have a model on paper than one standing next to me. If I don't draw with any kind of model however, my drawing is often very messy and lop-sided.

I have enjoyed talking with you, and I hope you'll like my works.

No problem. I really like the how you chose to draw the negative space, I don't think that this would look as good if it had alot of detail. The white on red works really well also. I've been trying to find a pose that I could draw that is similar to this, but I'm limited to working space as my computer desk is very cluttered and I have no large paper/drawing boards. What do those japaneese characters in the back mean?

Thanks very much once again!

Originally I was going to have the background as blue, since it would match the decor of my kitchen (we have a woodcut on the wall), but I thought that red would be more powerful overall.

I'm not exactly sure if the translation is right, but I believe the Japanese characters say "I cannot be denied."

That saying certainly does match the picture. How did you get the pose to look so realistic, did you just wing it, or did you have someone standing in that pose?

If I want a good drawing, I have to be looking at someting, unless it's drawing something simple like a 3D shape.
I hope you post more great artwork soon, I think that tomorrow I'll be posting some of my sketches.

The pose is actually from a picture I found of a drawn samurai. I did a quick search on the school computers for any samurai image at all, and after ignoring the dozens of Tom Cruise photos that popped up, I found a small sketched picture. I printed it and used it as a reference for my own.

I find that if I use a live model, my proportions are very off kilter. I'll be focusing on a certain detail and then either exaggerate it too much or not enough, which in turn results in a strangely lopsided image. I usually only use live models for finer details, such as hands and depth perception.

I can't thank you enough for your praise! I will be sure to check out your work.
