# About me

Lampworker | Papercutter | Stay at Home Mum

After 5 years working as a professional lampworker when my youngest daughter was born I went back to creating for fun. Of course it was impractical to spend hours out in the lampwork studio with a baby so I found myself looking for a new creative outlet. That is when I discovered the art of paper cutting.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I am working my way towards going back to lampwork professionally while also looking to gain accreditation to teach lampwork as a qualification.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A few other things have crept in along the way, while learning to do my own paper cut templates I started drawing more, but found that I really enjoyed zentangle. I also began traditional colouring as I started to learn how to use promarkers for creating backgrounds for my papercuts.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Other things creep in too, I have started having a go at quilling and my husband and I are looking at starting to cosplay.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You can find me on Instagram @scarletimpressions where I tend to spend most of my time. WIP's end up there and general insights into my life.
My website/blog is also now my main home. I ramble on about all sorts there.

Thanks, I had a replacement birthday combined with mothers day here. I went to hobby craft and got myself a few nice supplies.

Sounds like a day well-spent, my friend.
Always exciting to get new supplies.

Yes, I didn't end up getting much (new Pitt brush pen and a really useful pencil box) I also bought my son some beads that will fit with his loom bands (so he can make spiders apparently) I'm kicking myself though for not getting the needle felting kit I saw. I feel another trip coming on because I have always wanted to try that.

Aah, I know these brush pens. I think they can be quite wonderful!
And beads for a loom? That sounds like an interesting idea, too. I tell you... I am pretty addicted to my local craft store, myself. Even if I don't need anything, I still like to walk through the aisles. I think it helps me think up new projects!

Loom bands, tiny elastic bands but he uses something more akin to a knitting loom to make things from them, bought him loads of books on it. It was a really big trend in the summer but he's stuck at it when all his friends moved onto the next thing.

SinistrosePhosphate In reply to ScarletLeonard [2015-03-24 23:44:33 +0000 UTC]

I've seen them before, actually. We call the little contraption "Rainbow Loom" here and it was quite a sensation last year. I've never gotten into hit, but some of my colleagues' children did. (Well, some of my colleagues ended up wearing loom-made wrist bands and all...) I don't know what the "next thing" is or will be, but I am sure we can convert that loom to actually knit something if it comes to it in the future!

... I mean, you can always use something like that for something else, right?

Hello!

And thank you very much for adding my journal to your list of favourites. It's something that I've been running with a group I've been involved in. If you have the time, please consider looking into it. If it's not your cup of tea, I would most certainly understand it.

With many thanks,

I had a good read though, any other time and I would make an attempt at it. Maybe once all this seasonal stuff is out the way I can have a go.

Do you have to do every hour for it to count?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SinistrosePhosphate In reply to ScarletLeonard [2014-12-05 15:34:34 +0000 UTC]

No, you don't have to participate in every hour. As long as you participate in a given hour you are eligible at the end. We have a lot of folks who have only participated in one hour (or have missed several hours in the middle). You wouldn't be alone.

I personally take a lot of pride in the write-up. Of course, a lot of it is copy-and-pasted from previous hours for consistency. But the write up for every month's challenge is unique and specific. Most of the commentary at the end and "artist's comments" are also unique for each hour. They let me talk as much as I want about the finer bits of what makes the human mind tick... and that's what I get out of this project. So... thanks for giving it a good read!

Super, I might just be able to get a go then

It is obvious you enjoy the write up, it's brilliant.

Oh, it's been 7 hours (and there'll be a total of 13, hence the name "longest night").
I wrote all the description and the "Famous examples". And it was a blast. However, this is probably the first time I've heard anyone giving me feedback for the text. So... thank you!

I do like a good narrative

I've joined the group now so if I get a chance I will have a go. If not I will join in on the next one.

SinistrosePhosphate In reply to ScarletLeonard [2014-12-09 00:13:54 +0000 UTC]

Not a problem at all, my friend.
There are two people who are posting these challenges on a monthly basis. If it wasn't me, it would be my colleague. We have a slightly different take on the write up, above and beyond the copy and pasted segments. But I do want to assure you, the description of the challenges every month is probably the part most worth reading. It's meant to inspire you, after all.

It would be great if you can join this month. But if you can't, there's no harm in it, either. There are 13 hours in total, after all.

You're welcome. I thought I had lost you because I went looking for your flake tutorial again as my protractor and compass arrived and I couldn't remember the angles for a 6 sided flake.

I've now successfully folded a flake but no time yet to put a design on it.
