Read the comments. They're all REALLY enthusiastic about naked porn-star Erik.
There's an audience for everything, I suppose. Even for naked porn-star movie monsters.

The comments are hilarious. I wonder what would happened if they found out that Erik was not, in fact, supposed to have the body of a porn-star. Rather, a cadaver.
Sex sells...? (oh god, please don't tell me that there's naked Quasimodo art. There's only so much I can take in this world.)

I'm torn between finding that a genius idea and wondering why you would want to inflict that much pain on someone's psyche. That's how serial killers who live under opera houses are created, y'know.
That picture is just so confusing. Why does he have no body/pubic hair. Why is he conventionally attractive. Why/how is he muscular. Why. So many questions.

JUST recognised the Enjolras on your avatar as Uwe KrΓΆger. I happened upon that photo and thought "wait this looks familiar".
He's a very pretty Enjolras.

Uwe is very pretty, especially as Der Tod!
I just wish that he could still sing...

In that role, he makes one think, "What if Death was David Bowie?"
Aw, what happened to him?

Spelbound In reply to Spazzbert [2012-04-20 03:11:27 +0000 UTC]
He really does look like Jareth! It's hilarious. [link]
Well, since he's sung incorrectly (ie. using only his vocal chords for support, and therefore straining them badly) for so many years, when he sings above a D, or attempts to belt anything at all...bad things happen. [link] skip to 2:35, to see what I mean. He's "blat belting" right in that poor girl's face, and it makes me wince for his poor vocal chords.
Not to mention they look like they're trying to eat each other's faces off...

Spazzbert In reply to Spelbound [2012-04-20 03:33:22 +0000 UTC]
Ooh that's painful. And the face-eating is pretty bizarre. But, hey! When he's dressed like human being, he's really quite attractive!
I definitely like Kamaras' singing/performance better, but I hate how they barely did anything with his hair or makeup in that version. He just looks like a handsome man with a slightly weird hairdo, while KrΓΆger looks genuinely horrifying in a sort of gamorous way. Like David Bowie in The Labyrinth, but SCARIER and EVEN MORE like a drag queen. <3
He also looks a good deal like my mother, but that's neither here nor there.

I know, right?! He's so pretty, if only he could sing! (I feel like Uwe is the German version of Ramin Karimloo...though Ramin is improving, rather than getting worse.)
Mate (screw accents!) is...not my favorite Der Tod. At all. Something about his voice just bothers me. :/ However, I completely agree with you- they never did anything other than the general stage makeup for him, and it really detracted from his look. If you're looking for some awesome Der Tod stage makeup, look at the Hungarian Der Tods (or the Japanese and/or Korean ones). Simply fabulous! Ironically, Hungarian!DT is also the least creepy or stalker-ish version. He's played as Elisabeth's true love, and it's almost as though she's cheating on him with poor Franz Joseph.
I always thought Der Tod (well, blonde!Tod) looks a lot like Jareth. Down to the tight black leather pants (in some versions.)
Your poor mother. My sympathies to her.

Spazzbert In reply to Spelbound [2012-04-23 05:23:54 +0000 UTC]
His accent does make it hard to understand what he's singing sometimes (well even harder than usual), but it also makes him sound like Dracula witch is sort of nice I guess.
I do like his voice. It's sort of creepy and makes you uncomfortable. But then you look at him and he's an adorable little blonde Hungarian fellow who vaguely resembles Hugh Laurie and that either makes it better or makes it worse. I can't decide.
But I can totally see not liking the way he sings. It's an acquired taste for sure.
Was MΓ‘tΓ© Tod in the Hungarian production too? I'm not sure how I feel about them being in a mutual relationship, since if she was totally attracted to him, she would have killed herself pretty early on and symbolism yadda yadda yadda.

Haha, I meant the accent over the 'a' and 'e' of Mate's name, but I do agree in terms of his actual accent.
I'm fine with his voice- it's how airy and unsupported he is that I notice, and those kind of things bother me. I like him in most of the songs except "Wenn Ich Tanzen will", and the same goes for Maya. I adore her voice, it's gorgeous, but they just sound so...awkward together in that song. Plus, Mate's stupid white cowboy coat thing in the opening sequence makes me cry. I can never decide if I find Mate creepy or attractive. Creepily attractive? It really depends on the picture.
BUT I think that my opinion is just based mostly on the filmed production. I did see a YT video of he and a friend singing "Die Shatten Werden Langer", and he sounded great. So.
No, it was some other guy. And I do think Elisabeth loved him in a way, but wanted to find freedom on her own, rather than running to him and relaying on his powers to set her free. That's what "Die Maladie" and "Wenn Ich Tanzen Will", really, are about. It really depends on the interpretation of the production as to whether or not she really loves either Der Tod or Franz Joseph. Personally, I don't think she really LOVED either- she loved freedom most of all.

I realised that after I posted. Ahaha whoops.
THE COWBOY THING. Who thought that was a good idea? Have you ever seen the film of Jesus Christ Superstar? When Judas comes back as a ghost to scold Jesus and sing the title song, he's wearing a VERY similar outfit. But that was the 70's so there's a bit of an excuse.
π: 0 β©: 1
Spelbound In reply to Spazzbert [2012-04-23 17:41:06 +0000 UTC]
It's okay. The names can get confusing.
THAT COWBOY COAT IS THE MOST RIDICULOUS THING I'VE EVER SEEN. Whoever did think it was a good idea should be fired.
Exactly, 70's. Ergo, excuse. But this is the 21st century, and why would Der Tod, in the 19th, look like a cowboy with a frilly shirt? I mean, really.

Well, all of Death's costumes are somewhat anachronistic/fantastical. But an angelic Elvis Presley cowboy is out of place in (almost) any musical.

Spelbound In reply to Spazzbert [2012-04-24 04:16:36 +0000 UTC]
Well, I think it depends on the director of the production. I've seen some with time-appropriate costumes for Der Tod, and other with...well...
I think even in an Elvis Presley musical, that cowboy outfit would not be appropriate.

He's supposed to represent the Baroness Mary Vetsera, with whom Rudolph was in love with. Unfortunately, not many people know this, so it just look like Der Tod's randomly cross-dressing.

Spazzbert In reply to Spelbound [2012-04-24 21:47:06 +0000 UTC]
OH jeebus it makes sense now.
I assumed that all of the sub-Deaths were in creepy ballgowns to match the waltz-y music, and that Death Proper was wearing one too so that it would be surprising when one of the ensemble suddenly came at Rudolf, and embraced him.
The reason that idea isn't getting across to most people, I'd think, is because the dress he's wearing isn't period-realistic. If all of the Deathlets had those fantastic gowns on, and Death was properly dressed like Vetsera, it might not have gotten lost.
And Mary Vetsera BEING death is fucking awesome. I like that.

Spelbound In reply to Spazzbert [2012-04-25 02:46:13 +0000 UTC]
Glad to be of service! It's European, ergo bizarre interpretations of real life.
I always thought that they just dressed Der Tod up because there was no time to put Vetsera in the actual musical, so suddenly having her for one song would make no sense to those who did not know much/anything about the Mayerling Incident.
But her being death is really cool too!

Urm... I just joined Abaisse.
But I'm already having doubts about the username I chose. I nearly went for something along the lines of 'Citizeness Enjolras' No real puzzle why, but felt kinda bad for it. ...And now the name I chose doesn't seem original, wirry, or even just cool. -.-
So, urm, look for a 'Mlle ThΓ©nardier' otherwise the accounts probably being deleted until i can think of a better name. ><
