Oh yeah, the SW sketch. Man, those are old.
The character IS intense, so I try to capture that as much as possible. He's pretty much one of those guys that is always on full blast, all the time.

I hate when different artists, even in a very intense situation, draw their characters with an almost disinterested look on their faces. The text may be very 'emotional', but even when they do put expressions in, it just doesn't look real...I'm glad you make your characters live with real expressions!

I totally understand. One of my biggest influences is Mark Bagley--if you don't know who he is, you need to. If anybody knows how to draw characters with intensity, it's that man.
Also, I wanted to tell you that I think your comic sketches are very cool. I have written a large portion of a graphic novel that I want to finish someday, but I have difficulty with paneling. It's really hard for me to get the effects I want when drawing out my panels. You seem to have a really good grasp on that aspect.

All art is nothing but non verbal, visual communication. Anything that will help to convey the thoughts, feelings or emotions you want to be shown in the character, scene, overall tension or atmosphere, than you do whatever it takes. Tight shots create tension, for instance. Midevil churches were made so stinkin' huge and ornate because they wanted you to feel as small and insignificant as possible compared to god, one reason art from that time consisted of many forlorn looking people with unhealthy looking features and skin color. Basically, the point is, get the emotion first. All art without emotion is flat, with design and skill, but without life. I won't ramble too long, and I must say I don't totally feel qualified to give advice, I guess I just like to talk
