To answer your questions, yes, I procrastinate and yet make lots of art because I use art as a form of procrastination. I should be working on projects and research. Instead, I draw. It's more fun.
On the contrary to what you assumed, I'm not that into dogs. I don't have one and I probably won't get one. I draw dogs because that's what I get paid to draw. What I actually like to draw is birds and monsters and anything that entertains me at the time.

Okay wait a bit. You get paid for drawing, yet you call it procrastination?... Either you have mixed up the meaning of procrastination, or I have made this way harder to understand than it really is (which I probably have).
No but okay, it makes sense now.
Okay and now I get confused over the logic of human beings.. They pay you to draw dogs and such.. Who in their right mind would actually do that? (no offense to your clients, I'm just a bit confused)
I would understand if it was for some campaign for a VET or something, but I don't get the notion that it is that kind of clients you draw for? Is it just normal people, who are putting in money for anthropomorphic dogs? Aren't there enough already on DeviantArt to simply buy a print of?... I think I could write confused questions all day on this topic, but I might just be an ignorant bastard, who does not understand true art... I don't know...
On another node! You wouldn't by any chance have any experience in the field of 3D, texturing or animation - or be willing to learn. Because my brother and I are in the progress of making a game a-la pokΓ©mon... Just different... Actually a lot different, but I won't get into details. The point is, that we need more people on our graphics team, since making graphics does take some time, and making what we want to make will take an eternity if we are only the two of us, and the occational help we get from friends.
We cannot offer you money as of yet, since we still need an alpha build, but if everything works out, we will create a kickstarter, and hopefully we can pay people working on the game - of course including ourselves.
I simply like your ideas and creativity in stuff like
this: [link]
this: [link]
And my favorite: [link]
So I thought I would give you the offer. You might be able to make a career if everything goes well (which I can in no way promise you, yet both me and my brother is hoping that our business models and stuff will work - so that this will not just be an empty dream - and we will of course do everything in our power to make it a success)
So I hope you'll consider it, even though I know you're a busy woman.

No, you're not an ignorant bastard, you're just not familiar with the market. I myself have done trades and received art of wolf characters. People create characters to role play them, and one site that I sell my art at is a wolf RP site. It's basically a writing game. And when people make original characters with unique designs, they like to get art of them. It's not too hard to grasp. It's actually really fun interpreting writing into art.
Thanks for the offer, haha, but I'm not interested in going into art as a career. It's a hobby. Not to mention, I'm already internet-employed as a concept artist at a virtual pet site. I'm more of a scientist when it comes to career path. But good luck!

Well blimey.. It all actually made sense. And quite a lot of it even. But wouldn't it make sense to have a dedicated artist or two for such sites? I might just be too business-minded, but to me that seems like a better idea to make it easier for the RP'ers on the site, and to make more profit for the hard work going into a website... But I'm just thinking aloud again. It's quite cool that the market is there. I keep on getting surprised by how many niches the internet has created. Heck even one of my friends have managed to earn a good bit of cash by selling pen & paper RPGs through the internet. It just goes to show, once again, how amazing the collective computer web is.
Well we would do with a hobby artist too! Anything really!.. Nah, whatever. Thanks anyway - I might just steal some inspiration from you anyway (but don't worry, inspiration does mean INSPIRATION in my case. No need to get the lawyers ready).
A scientist you say? In what field? I'm a bit afraid to take a guess, seeing how far away I was last time, but might I be close by guessing it is somewhere in the field of biology?

In reference to "wouldn't it make sense to have a dedicated artist or two for such sites?" ...not really. Why would any large group of creative people be content with one or two artists that do all the commissions? What would hold people like me or all the other artists back from doing our own commissions? Not really sure what you're getting at. It's just a forum. Where people draw a lot, write a lot, and art is in high demand.
And lol, what I meant by being a hobby artist is that I'm not interested in getting involved in more free work for other people. I enjoy doing freelance paid work and doodling for myself. I used to get involved more free work with new sites and concepts, but I found little enjoyment in it.
I'm in the field of wildlife conservation, inching myself towards animal husbandry.

Well yeah, that does make sense. I just thought from the viewpoint of games like Renaissance Kingdoms... But then again, that is more a game with a forum aspect, where the other here, is a forum with a game aspect... So I guess it does make sense not to have dedicated artists after all.. I think I just see money in everything. It's a kind of handicap I guess.
Yeah, I kind of got that, but my horrible humor just takes over my rethoric skills sometimes, so once again I must apologize for any horrible misunderstandings this has, and will create.
And I think I do know the feeling, working for free is horrible. You don't have complete control over your work, and then you still won't get paid. It's a loss in every way.
Okay, I have a general idea of what these topics are about, but just to be sure: Wildlife conservation, that would be the art of making sure we don't kill every single panda left on earth? (and other species, whatever, pandas win in my head on sheer lazyness).
And then animal husbandry is the whole of farming and ranching of animals I pressume?
I'm kind of curious, since I am not well adjusted for work in the field of science, yet it interests me a lot!

Wildlife conservation is basically a mixture of biology and environmental science that includes careers in sustainable resources, preservation of natural habitat, etc. Animal husbandry is any kind of animal care, like zookeeping, rehabilitation, training, breeding, endangered species programs, etc. Basically I am aiming to be a zookeeper that sometimes does behavioral research.

Tails1942 In reply to Owlheart [2013-04-10 18:53:27 +0000 UTC]
Sound pretty cool. I like that you are one of the few people who keep the dream of zookeeper. It seems like everyone wanted to be it at one point, but then they throw it out the door for some reason. Is zookeeping a job that gives you a lot of time for research? Or is that something you have to set time off to yourself?
So you are in the university now or what? (or whatever is equivalent to a university in America? I seriously have no clue how your school system is stitched together.) And for that sake, how close to your aim are you at this point?

Owlheart In reply to Tails1942 [2013-04-11 01:03:40 +0000 UTC]
My research would be a part of my career, not on the side. But yeah, I'm in what you guys call university right now. I've got about a month to go and I'll be done. So getting a job is right around the corner.

So you win the whole package! Damn good deal.
That is pretty cool. So soon you're a "real" adult, or whatever they say... Actually they say that on a lot of occasions, yet it never seems to be the final deeming of your "adulthood". But I digress. Do you have any idea where you are going to work, or are you just going to throw your resumΓ© around to every place around? Or maybe you've already landed yourself a job?
It seems to me that many young people (at least in Denmark) think that the job just comes out of nowhere directly after being out of the university, is it like that in the U, S and A too? Or are you actually well prepared for the future?

You are ever so welcome ^w^ It actually surprises me that so little critique is given on this site! Γ
It's a site for sharing, and commenting on art, so the fact that it is only 5% or so of critiqueable art, that is critiqued, is just astonishing.
I remember critiquing an artwork, that a few days later became a DD. I were kinda proud to be the first to critique it, and to actually get a response from the artist (usually DD artists gets spammed too much to answer anything).
But I checked back some days later (after it's DD were over), and of course I were still the first to critique, but to my surprise, I were still the ONLY one who had made a critique... on a DD!
My head blew O.o'
But I am so grateful that you actually comment on the critique, which is also kinda rare xD ...It's sad how afraid everyone is to write anything these days -.-'
