Vinyl is often depicted as a hip-hop DJ to the core and, just as often, is the go-to girl if you want to take part in Ponyville or Canterlot's night scene. She's known to be wild, unpredictable, and sometimes borderline insane, not giving a hoot what anypony else thinks of her words and actions. She's often paired, whether romantically or simply as an Odd Couple friendship, with the more cultured and sensible Octavia. While Vinyl generally finds Octavia's choice of music boring and can be a horrible tease, she does respect the earth pony and is usually the one to initiate the friendship/relationship if the two don't know each other from the get-go of a fic or comic. She has also been depicted as having a relationship with Neon Lights, a background unicorn pony, usually shown to be a lighting show designer. They often share the same personality in fan labor.

here it is !!
{ G }osh, it's been about a year and 4 months since Vinyl have been out of town to do concerts, sign people's autographs, doing some beats and dubstep- you name it, and she did it. That busy pony was probably having fun with her life during that time. Although, the cello-playing earth pony named Octavia, was not having so much fun ever since her friend has left. All she did was just write the next song she was gonna play, watch horror movies, and just... felt bored and lonely.
On the day that Vinyl had left Ponyville to go to Manehattan, Octavia was very happy and relieved that she was finally gone, pretty much because of all of the loud music and them fighting a lot. Octavia was just enjoying her time alone for the first week, but then, suddenly, Octavia just felt so sad and lonely the next week, and that was happening ever since Vinyl's long absence.
The second week, Octavia only spent her time eating icecream, breaking down at random times, and crying herself to sleep while thinking and/or dreaming about her friend. Then one day, while Octavia was watching the news later at night, she saw that Vinyl just released her new album, and thousands, even MILLIONS of ponies around the world were buying them, but all except for Octavia. That's when she started to break down and sob uncontrollably. At this point, Octavia galloped over to the phone and tried to call Vinyl, but everytime she called, it went straight to voicemail. Although, it said that her voicemail was full, so there was no way that Octavia could give her a voicemail. Octavia called two more times, and still she wouldn't answer. Octavia never called back to check on her ever since.
But, early this morning, her phone ringed, but Octavia was a bit too tired to answer it, so she decided to not budge. Then moments later, it went to voicemail. The operator said that it has 1 new message. Octavia still didn't budge. But suddenly, there was a familiar voice that made Octavia instantly get up. It was actually her friend, Vinyl! Finally, after just several months without a voicemail from her, she finally got it from her! But it was just a really short voicemail, but it did change Octavia's life majorly.
'I'm coming home'. That's all it has stated. "S-she's...coming home..?" She parroted to herself quietly. Tears started to form in the corner of her eyes as she quickly got out of bed and went to get her scarf and her jacket, running all the way to the Pony Express. Octavia then settled down on a pink-colored bench, waiting for the next train to come to find her friend.

[ Hnhh oh god it's so beautiful ]The unicorn sat alone on the train, leaning her head against the window and just staring out, being engulfed in thoughts and fears and everything in between. Her heart was heavy with worry, yet fluttering in happiness at the same time. She tried to piece the words of how sorry she was for being gone so long, but she never could find the words to match her thoughts exactly. Feeling her face heat up, she teared up and slowly put her glasses that were resting on the top of her head over her eyes. She filled her lungs up with air and let out a long exhale. This was the longest train ride of her life.
Meanwhile, the chugging of a train had become more and more audible over time for Octavia. Surely enough, once she looked, there was a train that was now in Octavia's sight, continuing slowly until it had finally stopped at the Pony Express. Steam filled the air above as ponies started to get off of the train with luggage, pets, one or two items or none at all, you name it. At last, Vinyl slowly stepped off the train, raising her glasses above her eyes and propping it on her head, looking a bit more composed than before at least. Her eyes scanned the ponies, looking for that familiar figure.

cello. aggh thank you !! yours was well written <3While she was waiting just about thirty minutes, the earth pony was humming a little song called Coming Home , which used to be her favorite song. And already, small, hot tears were slowly falling down from her cheeks as she continued to hum the little tune. Several minutes later, her ears twitched, noticing a loud sound of chugging. Octavia looked up, smiling brightly as she watched the train pull up. Although there were several ponies clustering around the place, which is making her not able to see her companion.
Finally, after just a few seconds of trying to find Vinyl, she had finally spotted her! Octavia screamed very loudly as she ran up to Vinyl, giving her a really tight hug. "Vinyl!! You're back!! I've missed you..!!" She choked out between sobs, nuzzling her softly.

"O-Octi!" Vinyl almost got knocked back by the impact of Octavia's hug, wrapping her hooves around Octavia, hugging her back and closing her eyes. "I've missed you too... I-I'm sorry for being gone so long, I really didn't mean to, it's just I was on tour and I made some deals with this dude and..." She stopped before she rambled on, as she always did when she got overly-excited or something. She let out a shaky breath, hugging Octavia closer.
"I'm sorry..."

Octavia shakily chuckled a bit, trying to hold in the rest of the tears. She wiped her eyes with her hoof, giving her a reassuring smile. "Vinyl, i-it's okay, darling.. It's not actually your fault, nor that dude's fault.. You had to do what you have to do in order to please that pony and everypony else! ...But it's quite alright, dear.. But I'm just happy that you're here to stay." She paused, taking a sigh before petting Vinyl's mane softly.
"I hope you had fun, though.. what did you do there?"

Vinyl blushed slightly as Octavia started to pet her mane, lowering her head a bit and looking up at her with reassuring red orbs.
"A lot, as I've said before... tours, contracts, albums... I could never have a full 8 hours of sleep the whole time I was away, Octi, I swear." She gave a soft puff of breath. "I've always been wanting to go home... I started to miss it, ya' know? And the fact that you never really called me - kinda scared me a bit. I mean, I was nervous because I feel like you'd explode on me if I called you, so I tried to... avoid that, I guess."

Octavia ceased petting the other's mane, releasing her from the long embrace. With a sigh, she held Vinyl's hooves under hers.
"To be quite an Applejack (to be honest), Vinyl, I only stopped calling you because you were immensely busy with all of this stuff in your hooves. Although, one time, I saw you on the news that you just released your album, so i instantly called you to tell you congratulations and perchance talk a bit, but alas, you haven't answered, and I couldn't send you any voicemail because it was full! So.. yeah..."

"R-Really? That was the- only problem? Ah, shit, I'm such an idiot then!" She hit the side of her head with a hoof, instantaneously swiping out her phone and deleting all of her voicemails, smiling and showing Octavia as if proud or something. "There, voicemails gone!" She stated, returning her gaze to the phone as she just stared blankly at the screen.
"...Man, I wish I wasn't so much of an idiot..."

A soft chuckle escaped out of her mouth, giving Vinyl a soft pet on the back. "Hehehe, I'm glad it's all gone. Maybe next time when you're away, or even when I'm away, I could always give you a voicemail !"
Octavia blinked, flattening her ears for a moment. Then an adorably, but warm smile appeared on her face. "Well, you're not an idiot, Vinyl.. Even though I think your not an idiot, you'll always be my idiot."

"Ah, Octi- we're bein' all mushy in public, c'mooon..." The mare scrunched her face in embarrassment, peering away with a pink tint becoming more visible on her cheeks.

"Aww, what?" Octi looks around, noticing that a few ponies were looking at them. "Tch..! Oh, yeah..." She turns around, getting ready to go home. "Well, if you want it to be private, we could just go home? ...or maybe just go and get a quick bite from your favorite fast food place, Henry's Hayburgers?"
