I WROTED A THING.

The Golden Age of Star Wars.
.
"I can't believe that Disney made a billion-dollar Star Wars trilogy and they didn't even have a plan! Β I can't believe they didn't plan it out beforehand! Β I can't believe it!"
Well, the reason you can't believe that is because it's not really true. Β Where did this "they had no plan" meme come from? Β I see people repeating it like lemmings. Β From all indications, the Sequel Trilogy was pretty well planned out, certainly to a greater extent than the Original Trilogy. Β
(I mean, come on -- we all know that in the Original Trilogy, Luke and Leia were not siblings until the 3rd movie, and he probably didn't know that Vader was Luke's father when he started making A New Hope -- all that came later.)
Look.
Go back and watch all three films in the Sequel Trilogy. Β They are coherent. Β Everything fits. The plan was there from the start.
Kylo Ren's redemption, for starters. Β
In The Force Awakens, one of the first characters

Yo.

Real talk? You and the other Star Wars fans who hate Star Wars now should totally go see The Rise of Skywalker. No, really! If you don't want Disney to get your money, just buy a ticket to support CATS and go into a different theater.

This movie... it's insane. Obviously, it's not an austere masterpiece like The Last Jedi -- I wish to hell that Rian Johnson could have done this movie instead of JJ Abrams. Still, it is so much more bizarre than I ever thought it would be. It's just... WTF.

(Surely some of the angry fanboys will be happy now that Rey's powers have been "explained," right?)

Plus, you know, there's always Zorii Bliss!

Oh, you misunderstand.

I don't hate Star Wars.

I hate Kathleen Kennedy's Self Insert Fanfiction.

Abrams, Johnson, Kennedy, none of them had any business being near those films.

I would rather have myself strapped into a chair, ala Clockwork Orange and watch 48 hours of the Star Wars Holiday Special with my eyes kept open, dropped keeping them moist, the audio piped directly into headphones than give Disney even one millisecond of my time, much less my money.

I'm with JonTron. The Star Wars sequels is the cinematic equivalent of ISIS vandalizing ancient history museums, ancient artifacts and other sites.

You're welcome to the brainless, vapid, soulless popcorn fare if you really enjoy that sort of thing.

Me? I've been spreading PDFs of the classic EU Star Wars books across the web to show people the heights the actual Star Wars soared to before the Fanfic Trilogy.

I cordially invite you to read the Han Solo trilogy to get started. It's legit, amigo.

Not the audio books though. They're badly abridged.

Can't, I'm currently reading the Thrawn trilogy.

It's good, but there's really no way Disney could have filmed it, because it's based around C'baoth yearning to get his claws on a still-young Luke and Leia, and her unborn twins.

I suppose they could have recast those parts with younger actors, but we all know that people would have really lost their minds if they had told Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, and Carrie Fisher to take a hike.

Sigh... I definitely have a lot to write and probably a video to make. Time, i need!

They could just do as they did with Rebels and make it all CGI.

'Star Wars: Legends; The New Republic'

If you think Mandalorian made the very people who Disney shit on begrudgingly enjoy, that would go like hotcakes.

One breath of Thrawn and that's it.

Chronorin In reply to Zucca-Xerfantes [2020-01-04 07:12:39 +0000 UTC]

Who knows, they might. By all accounts, they believe that they flooded the market with too much Star Wars, and are currently trying to slow it down a bit. But no matter what else they do, it was pretty mandatory that they used Hamill, Fisher, and Ford one last time while they had the chance -- anything animated or anything that takes place in the past with younger actors can come later. First things first.

You know, I never saw Rebels... I was about to start watching it, but then decided that I should go back even further and catch up on that Clone Wars show first. So far, I'm really enjoying it -- it damn near redeems the prequels for me.

As for Thrawn, he's a great idea for a character. I'm not sure how they would use him in the future, because doesn't he appear in Rebels, which is canon?

I do think they should ditch the ysalimiri, though. Bad idea.

Anyway, you're missing out if you don't see the new movie.

Super evil Palpatine. Ben's redemption. Rey's parents. The final shot of Luke and Leia... great stuff.

It needs a director's cut, though. It's a very fast movie, and it feels like it could use an extra 20 minutes of slow time.

Then I’ll miss out.

Didn’t budge on LJ, will never budge on the third.

I’ll never regard it as anything else but expensive, self-insert fanfiction.

The pre-NJO books are what follows Return of the Jedi as far as I’m concerned.

Friend twisted my arm until I saw Mandalorian, and it rekindled the dying embers of what I thought Jar Jar Abrams, Ruin Johnson and Krapleen Kennedy had strangled.

Been replaying KoTOR with upgrade mods. Juhanni cheetah, sound upgrade and so on.

Since you had me blocked all last year, I am curious... what did you think about that entire Captain Marvel/Brie Larson kerfluffle?

Out of all the recent culture meme wars, that one was by far my favorite.

It wasn’t the first time a Hollywood narcissist got too high on their own aroma to see the forest for the trees and it won’t be the last.

She’s a competent performer who was given a really blasΓ© role who seemed to have conveniently forgotten the literal, not figurative, but literal decades of women-centric television and movie productions that preceded her.

I’m not a big Marvel fan, admittedly, so maybe this didn’t hit me as close to home as many.

People worrying about her being in Star Wars...? Hey, if it’s written and directed better than Captain Marvel, there’s no reason she can’t be a competent actress there too.

I don’t mind the third entry so much... I mean, when you write yourself into a corner like that, where else can you go?

But if they hadn’t written themselves into that corner to begin with....
