# About me

Am I a kayaker?

No.

But I am a writer who does a little of a lot. Like kayaking. And fly-fishing. And skiing. And most anything that involves the mountains of southwest Colorado.

Some days I pretend to be a photographer; others I pretend to be a pencil artist. On the rare occassion I have a canvas, brush, and acrylics, I pretend to be a painter for the afternoon.

But mostly I write. Which is unfortunate for my stomache, as it will likely be hungry most days and probably for as long as I claim to be a writer.

I also like questions. Asking them, more than being asked, I should say. So here's one for you to ponder:

What do you think of Jesus Christ?

Current Residence: Pagosa Springs, CO
Personal Quote: "Anyone who says he wants to be a writer and isn't writing, doesn't." --Ernest H

Thanks for your generous comment on Dead goddess! I deliberately went for the low depth of field here, so the foreground (lower part) is intentionally blurry to create a stronger sense of composition.

Ah, well it sure does draw the eye to the statue! I'm glad it was deliberate, then. Thanks for the explanation.

Well...I thank you for your work! Someone mentioned the word "infrared" in regards to your photos. May I ask how indeed you achieve such brillaint results?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

greyfin In reply to andbeautyTruth [2008-10-13 11:53:12 +0000 UTC]

it's a filter you put in front of your lense. the infrared filter blocks any light below 725nanometer wavelength. objects relfect light differently at this wavelength. sky and water both look deeper, plants turn snowy white.
drawback: exposure times get very long (you always need a tripod) because only a small part of the spectrum is used to generate the image.

andbeautyTruth In reply to greyfin [2008-10-14 05:34:49 +0000 UTC]

How intriguing.

Thanks for the link. I've never seen anything quite like these results. I'm no photographer, so the gritty details will likely escape me; but when such wondrous images come up...ahh, what is there to do but explore further?

And I can only hope my descriptions approach what your pictures stir within me. It's such a burden for language to communicate feeling. I blush when someone notices my attempts.

So what are your favorite subjects with infrared? I believe I will choose the trees.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

greyfin In reply to andbeautyTruth [2008-10-14 14:01:35 +0000 UTC]

depends. fast moving objects/living things are hard to capture, of course - you have to very patient to get a good result. that, OR remove the ir-lock-filter in front of your camera's chip - which is a rather expensive procedure and may corrupt the cam for anything else BUT ir-photography.
i prefer deep skies/interesting atmospheric days with a clear, but fascinating landscape. or wild nature - there're only so many parks you an shoot without getting bored.

thanks for your pictographic words. i really appreciate someone commenting with more than the odd 'like it'. i only fear i won't be able to reciprocate in kind. english is only my second language and i struggle enough with it as it is...

andbeautyTruth In reply to greyfin [2008-10-20 21:55:44 +0000 UTC]

I'm glad you're evidently a patient individual. Your work certainly demonstrates it.

And I wouldn't have noticed that English was not your first language...may I inquire as to your first? and/or how many you speak

I am such a fan of language that I wish I could learn more than two...and that my Spanish weren't so rough.

In the meantime, I will be waiting for more wondrous ir-photography from you.
