darkphoenix In reply to blackzer0 [2006-05-24 23:58:40 +0000 UTC]

Hey there buddy!

Haven't been around much lately. Just can't seem to summon up a lot of interest in what's going on around here at the moment; there are other things taking up my time and attention. Life is ... interesting. (Things might actually be improving, although it's hard to tell.)

And, of course, I'm busy. Playing with my latest HLDM level (I've partly built a new one, and my pyramid is still undergoing revision, although that should be finalised this weekend, with a bit of luck.)

I'm also planning to write another novel in June, to keep in practice between NaNoWriMos! Next November I'll be tackling the Array Wars sequel, but I've got another story I've been itching to explore ever since the concept came to me three years ago...

So I guess I won't be around much next month either!

How's life been treating you?!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

blackzer0 In reply to darkphoenix [2006-05-25 06:34:04 +0000 UTC]

It's great to hear life is being interesting for you! And that you might continue Array Wars. Things have been good with me too. This year is turning out to be the best ever yet. Even tops 2003. I went on a really long and great trip that I might tell about in journals, so if I do I hope you'll look over them. Professionally and personally things are looking up as well. As you said, things might actually be improving, although it's hard to tell.
I've not been around much lately either. But let's not disappear completely!

darkphoenix In reply to blackzer0 [2006-07-05 22:14:59 +0000 UTC]

Hiya.

Good to hear you're having a great year!

My prognosis of "interesting" was possibly a little premature. It rapidly went from "interesting" to "I can't believe I fell for it again, let's just toss my heart in the meat-grinder and get it over with" to "Oh well, c'est la vie" to "interesting without expectation, one day at a time" -- which I figure is the safest way to be, for a while...

Oh, and my attempt to write a pre-NaNoWriMo novel has fizzled. I think the main problem is that Array Wars is still heavily in my mind: I really just have to finish telling that story before I concentrate on another. (And hey, one novel a year is enough, I figure... )

Just read your Autumn Dusk Haiku and I really like it.
I also had a look at one of the Haiku articles in the link you provided with it, interesting but I still think that a haiku ought to be 5-7-5, it's part of the challenge for me.

darkphoenix In reply to Roboffin [2006-03-04 12:35:59 +0000 UTC]

Thanks...

"but I still think that a haiku ought to be 5-7-5"

Well, it's a valid approach. In general, haiku in English are far less (structured? regimented? rigorous?) than haiku in Japanese, and many ways of attempting them are possible. I certainly view the field differently from when I first started playing with them...

And whatever poetry I write, I prefer to have a structure to work towards; a framework to provide discipline and, yeah, challenge.

Ultimately, of course, the person you must please is yourself...

Ha well not just yet after 10 years of having it long I need to think about it a little more, but you advice was helpful because the main reason that I want to cut it is because I am lazy and brushing in the morning is becoming a real bitch .

So thanks for the help… do you have any style advice or just shave it?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

darkphoenix In reply to ConjalPowernet [2006-02-25 13:18:34 +0000 UTC]

Just shave it.

I got some clippers and started, originally, with a number 3 comb. From there I advanced to a #2 ... and stuck with that for a while since my #1 comb was missing. These days I don't use a comb at all, just take it straight back to stubble.

Laziness was the whole reason I grew the beard in the first place -- just couldn't stand spending all that time every morning shaving. Now I trim the beard and the hair at the same time, once every six to eight weeks...

Of course, I'm not particularly fashion conscious; the clippers, though, are a lot neater than the scissors when you're doing it yourself... I'd recommend -- if and when you actually decide to go short -- starting off with the "longest" comb you can, just to give you some ideaof how it will be like, but without getting down to bare skin. You'll definitely find it easier to manage, but it does take a little getting used to...

I recently contacted all the seniors i could find that were remotely linked to the lit community and fluttered my eyelashes and stuff and asked them to help out with a number of lit related projects i am working on.

Does this sound like something you might have time for?

If so, think i could flutter at you?

Flutter away -- apparently I'm a bit of a sucker for a nicely-fluttered eyelash -- but I don't think it will do much good. One thing I'm always short of is time... I really couldn't commit to anything that I didn't think I could follow through with...
