I actually don't get it either, I just made one once out of some leftovers, and it's received more attention than anything else I've done.

Sounds like me and my " Green eye" gif. The first animated gif I ever did, it skips were I got the frame-speed wrong and everything else but it got more attention and faves than my later work which runs smoother and so on.

It has won the "Hugo Award" several times and assorted lesser awards on many occasions.

Just be prepared for a long read, it has been going since November 2002, updated 3 times a week and is still ongoing.
