They started as a joke last April Fools, and since then, they've just stuck. You can collect a lot and upgrade your llama to things. The perk is a user is only allowed to give one to any other given user; in other words, I can't give you another one. Basically, I use them as a way of saying thanks. Cuz who doesn't want a llama?

how to get other people to give them? Oh man, I dunno. For a little while, I had random users giving them to me unprompted, and I think the expectation is that I was to send them a badge in return.
Not sure if that's still a thing, but if you want them, you might try giving llamas to random deviants and hope they send them back? haha.

ah, that's easy. When you're on another person's page, you click on the button in the top right that says Give (right under the llama badge). Then, it'll have "give a llama badge" and it should just lead you through at that point.

Don't worry, I don't completely get it either, but I'm going to try and explain anyway.
Llama badges were introduced last year on April Fool's Day. It was just meant to be a joke, but it became so popular that the DA admins decided to keep it.
Basically, the more llama badges you get, the more upgrades to the llama that appears on the upper right of your page gets. For instance, you start out with a normal llama, that can upgrade to a super llama, then albino llama, then super albino llama, and so on. The goal for most people on here is to get the highest level they can. It's a "just for fun" thing more than anything.
Anyone can send them to anyone. So rather than saying "Thanks for the fav/watch/whatever!" on people's pages, I just send them a llama.
In short, if you don't want to leave a thank-you note, send people llamas. Bitches love llamas.
