hi Zak,
i got a big thankyou for you. You told me to use oils, and even though you were right that i was struggling w/ acrylics i had to sorta batlle myself to go back to oils. but i have..and the positive results are huge so far. so thanks! ill post the work as soon as the last stroke is applied

my best paintings are in oils, but i dont like the chemicals, the drying time, and i absolutely hate the feel of oils on my hands. i find that the periods during which i do oil painting i get quite ill as im breathing in the fumes day and night. i donno, im out of cash for acrylics, so it might be back to oils soon - i bought all the surplus when an art store closed once - i probably have enough oil paints for 10 years of painting daily.

No im located in Fresno, California now, i was born houston, and grew up there in harris county (aldine westfield) and moved out here to go to school. My dad still lives there off 7th street downtown though.

i dunno, i never got into the scene there, i looked into the houston insitute of art but it felt to sterile.

HIA is a sham, literally. I looked into it my senior year, was given a tour by the Vice President. He had no clue who Max Ernst was. Even though there was a poster of his art in his office. Plus everything that was said never impressed me either, and not a single course credit is transferable, which makes me think that no university or collage recognizes them for a reason. So really, it is purely pointless to even attend such an institution in my eyes. I got the impression I would not learn anything new there at all, like I would be spending thousands of dollars just for studio time. Sterile is probably the perfect description for that place, that or anti-artistic.
I am still hunting for a good scene around here, and it does not help that I no longer live in downtown either. Now I am way out on the west side of town and I am really starting to beleive I am the only professional artist out here.

west like sugarland? Theres some good artist there, i just cant think of there names off hand other than litiumpicnic whos a photographer. Max Ernst Im not a fan of so i couldnt pick out his work in a line up either. My IM is o0eneptone0o if you ever wanted to chat in real time.

Even further, Barker-Cypress area. Yeah Lithium Picnic is an awesome photographer, and nice as well, but I was talking more in the traditional arts sense. I think I was more appalled that the Vice President did not know who max Ernst was at all in regards to art, not just that he had no idea that the work was created by him.

i agree its very flat, much more so then i wanted, the original idea was neat - i was creating ___|__ that shape w/ the figure and foreground, but the dark background ruined it all, i should have had stars go all the way down to whatver shes sitting on, but i couldnt match the original blue tones. ah well.

Thanks for checking out my site! and good luck with the art prick and this bizarre gang attacking your gallery. i checked out joels work (couldnt find that james guy) seems highly talented at rendering, but yeah - definitely into the monkeys. maybe just get away for a few days - its sunny and summer, plenty of awesome things to do - fuck all this silly art battle crap. good luck with whatever you decide.

i had a dream about you last night. Which is really weird becuz i havnt ever talked to you in person, but in the dream i was at your house i guess, and you were upset about something and i was sitting next to you at the computer and you were jamming away going through a mixture of odd art and death scenes. I dont really know what that means.
