RGB is a comic series I'm making using a program called KiseKae 2. If you're curious, I made a journal entry talking a bit more about it. The panels themselves are in the "RGB" folder of my Gallery.

Fallen-AngelGirl [2013-02-27 01:47:35 +0000 UTC]

Hi there. I was just wondering if I could ask you something. I'm trying to get into the BJD hobby but I was worried about yellowing. I originally read about how mellow the yellowing is on your dolls considering how long you've had them on a doll forum and I was wondering if you've accomplished this by keeping your dolls in their boxes or do you just regularly keep them on a shelf where they get a bit of light? Sorry, that's long o.o but I'd appreciate the help ^^

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

fastfeetnella In reply to Fallen-AngelGirl [2013-02-27 18:08:26 +0000 UTC]

Sure, I'm always willing to help answer questions! To slow down how quickly my dolls yellow, I keep them on dresser where they don't get any sunlight. My first BJD was kept on a dresser with more sunlight, as the blind was left open for long periods of time. So unlike my other dolls, she has yellowed to a considerable degree. I keep my dolls displayed out of their boxes because I like looking at them all the time. However keeping them in their boxes would probably slow down yellowing even more.

Yellowing is inevitable but limiting long periods of exposure to direct sunlight can prevent it from happening quickly and unevenly. Different resins will yellow differently and I've found that yellowing is the most noticeable with white resins.

I hope that was helpful and not just a long, rambling mess. ^_^;

Fallen-AngelGirl In reply to fastfeetnella [2013-02-27 23:35:57 +0000 UTC]

I was planning to keep my doll on a bookshelf in my room because I also don't want to keep it hidden away but even though it's not in direct sunlight, there're windows in my room so it's not dark. That's why I was worrying, if THAT kind of light would make it yellow quickly. You said you keep your dolls on a dresser? does the room they're in have windows? Because if they do then wow your dolls are in great condition.

Sorry if that sounds stupid, I keep worrying that if the light touches my doll then BAM, she'll be yellow in just a few months T_T

And noo, it was actually really helpful ^^ It's comforting to know about people who keep their dolls on display and still have them years later. Because then I hear about the people who tell you to put your doll in a box with no wig and white clothes when your not using it...I worry o.o

fastfeetnella In reply to Fallen-AngelGirl [2013-02-28 00:38:47 +0000 UTC]

There are two large windows in my room. The dresser the dolls are on is under one of the windows. I've started tossing two cotton pillowcases on top of them if I open the blinds but that's something new I'm trying. Yellowing is quite a gradual process so your doll wouldn't be yellow in only a few months. Dream of Doll's resin mellows quickly, within a year or so, but overall, the resins used by companies now seem to be is more colour-fast than in the past.

Sometimes the colour the resin yellows to can actually be very pleasent. My Souldoll who is 8 years old is a pale ivory instead of the pale pink she probably was originally. (It's hard to know since I'm her third owner) My first girl (just over 6 years old), who was kept on the same dresser with the blind up on the window for a full year or two (hey, nobody is perfect ), has gone the most yellow of my dolls. She now a deeper yellow/peach shade but in natural light she still shows up as pinky.

So yellowing isn't the boogeyman of BJD owner's nightmares. It'll happen eventually and if you take care to limit how much direct sun exposure your doll gets, then you should be fine. You might even like the results or the look will grow on you.

Fallen-AngelGirl In reply to fastfeetnella [2013-02-28 02:39:58 +0000 UTC]

Oh okay that's good. So if it's not in direct sunlight, keeping it in a sunlit room shouldn't be that bad for it?

Your oldest doll, would that be your doll Fleur? Because it's really hard to see any yellowing at all and the colour is really creamy and looks perfectly natural

Okays! Thanks a lot for all the info! I guess I'm just a bit nervous since I'm just getting my first doll now ^^'

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

fastfeetnella In reply to Fallen-AngelGirl [2013-02-28 16:03:07 +0000 UTC]

Well that's been my experience. Pretty much every BJD forum has a thread about yellowing, so doesn't hurt to see what other people have noticed with their own dolls.

Yeah, Fleur is the doll I've owned the longest. Alwyn was made earlier than Fleur but I'm her third owner, so I don't know how her original owner displayed her. Fleur can look very yellow under artifical light. This photo shows how she normally looks next to my white skin doll: :thumb340183454:

You're welcome! Which doll are you getting?

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

Fallen-AngelGirl In reply to fastfeetnella [2013-02-28 21:00:25 +0000 UTC]

Okay, thanks you! I'll do that ^^

wow, I didn't think that yellowing would look like that. I don't know why but I thought yellowing meant the doll would be like CRAZY yellow.I can see the colour you're talking about and it still doesn't look very un-natural

I'm getting a LUTS kid delf buzzi girl, as I mentioned in my intro on Dollieh Sanctuary which I saw you commented on, so Thank you!

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

fastfeetnella In reply to Fallen-AngelGirl [2013-03-02 14:53:34 +0000 UTC]

When I first heard the term "yellowing", I though it meant my doll would go the colour of a bannan. Thankfully, that's not the case. XD
Ah, ok, now I've placed you! I can be slow to connect the dots between users on forums to their other accounts. ^_^; Congratulations again on ordering your first BJD.
