Thanks a lot, m8.
I will try.
Believe it or not portrait photography is still quiet new to me. I found it to be rewarding when the model is beautiful enough to cover all my other mistakes in some shoots I made with her.

You're welcome! I just can't believe that one with such talent as yourself has such a small amount of notice. It's the least I could do.!

Well, I don't know. Maybe I'm just bad at self-marketing.
But with your help I should get a bit more notice.

I did and I'm impressed. It hits my tastes pretty well.
You got a lot of metal "VIP"s on your myspace friendslist.
It is interesting to see dA members outside of this community.

Nikon indeed.
Well actually, it was because my girlfriend has aleady a Nikon since her days of film photography. About a year ago she bought a D80. So we thought it might be a smart idea to go for the same brand to share lenses.
Talking about lenses. Do you have a suggestion for a decent wide-angle lense? I was thinking about a Tokina 11-16mm 2.8, but I'm still unsure. I can't spend tons of money on expensive e.g. Zeiss lenses.

Mickeygr In reply to maropho [2008-09-03 08:28:19 +0000 UTC]
I have a D80, and I love it! I've only had it a couple month, so I'll be getting more lenses down the road too. I don't think I'd even consider a Zeiss, check this [link] out. My first instinct would be to get a Nikon lens, they have lots to choose from, but they're expensive! I've talked to people who really like this [link] I haven't heard of the Tokina until you mentioned it, but it looks good [link]
Let me know what you do, I'd love to hear about it!

maropho In reply to Mickeygr [2008-09-04 04:12:18 +0000 UTC]
Yes, my first instinct would also be a Nikon lense, but like you said already they are expensive. I just don't have some 1-1.5k Euros laying around somewhere.
It seems that currently Tokina can't serve the demand here for the 11-16mm. I'm starting to wonder, whether the 12-24mm/4 also from Tokina might be a nice option aswell. I will keep you updated.

Yeah, good luck! I've heard a lot of good things about Sigma too, I'd encourage you to look at them as well.
I figured out that if I bought the Nikon 14-24, 24-70, 70-200, 200-400, it would cost me $12,000! Don't know what that is in Euros, but...damn!
Anyway, cheers!
Mick

Ok, after some reading I finally bought a Tokina 12-24mm/4.
Now I'm gonna do some tests. Unfortunately the weather is bad at the moment and I need to wait.
I hope I can upload some decent photos soon.

Nice one! The reviews I've read were good ones, so sounds like a good choice!
Good luck, and have fun with it!

Bad luck for me. There was something wrong with the aperture mechanics. It didn't shut correctly at 12mm. Currently I'm waiting for a new one.

maropho In reply to Mickeygr [2008-09-09 04:13:23 +0000 UTC]
I hope so too, but I have a bad feeling that I won't get it before our short vacation to spain.
Our plane goes on very early saturday morning.
Guess I have to make due with our 18-135mm kit lense. It's the most wideangle we got at the moment.

Mickeygr In reply to maropho [2008-09-09 04:46:09 +0000 UTC]
Well, any Nikkor lens is hardly the end of the world!
Too bad you're just about to leave though. Wide angles are great for travel, but 18mm is pretty wide, just not crazy wide!
I look forward to your work with the new one! I'm considering getting a lens of that length, so I'd love your opinion on your lens.
Good luck! Cheers!
Mick

maropho In reply to Mickeygr [2008-09-10 04:16:17 +0000 UTC]
Yes 18mm is already nice, but considering the cropfactor it is already 24mm.
I was talking on the phone to the shop where I bought it and it seems a new one might arrive just on time on friday.
Yes, I'm also looking forward to upload something again soon. At the moment I'm kinda swamped with other things. Not much time for my photography hobby. The only thing I can do atm is to listen to photography podcasts in the car while on the way to work. At least something...
Anyway, once I made enough pictures to get a good impression about the lense I will tell you what I think about it.
Take care!
