Thanks for your comments on the Mosaic I lettered! It's good to know some folks are aware of the letterer's travails!

That's because (usually) when you do your job correctly no one notices.... the only time anyone ever notices a letterer (when they do the job right) is when the letterer is tasked for the sound effects and stuff.
The letterers that do it poorly draw attention to how difficult they made the story-telling.
Of course, since doing it right requires hard work and talent good letterers are highly underrated, undervalued, and gosh darnit should get more credit.
(Besides, given the limited page space and other aspects of the Mosiacs, they are almost all dependent on the letterer to make the story good); I won't say that the letterer saved the story from being crap... but good work is good work and bad lettering just riles me and distracts from the thing.
(and what Marvel moron decided to get computer lettering and institute all that pretentious lower-case dialogue stuff in all their comics)?
I hope I am not overstating it...

No, no... all good points, and a few of them are aspects I was careful to consider when I started lettering.
Lettering comics requires two main disciplines as I see it - one is an eye for clear layout, design and communication. The other is an ability to work creatively with the lettering to add something to the way the story comes across. Even if it means eschewing the odd sound effect or funny-shaped bubble.
It's a discipline I'm trying to learn more about and push as far as possible.
(I have 2 open slots for lettering projects right now, by the way - shameless plug)
