thanks^^ I can't say i'm living easily from it, but it's how i earn my living. But it's more of a networking problem than a skill problem right now. It is bound to get more easy as i go.
The fundamentals are very important and it's the best way to get better fast.
I can say that your work reminds me of my own paintings in the beginning. Especially after i heard about feng zhu haha. So there is every hope that you are on the right path. If you want some advice, it would be to not go full black and white like you do. Start with middle values and keep there for as long as possible. Not full white or black but 75 black 50 grey and 25 white...if you know what i mean. If you need contrast you can easaly contrast with photoshop. But the reverse is not true. So keep your values thight in the beginning and contrast later.

The advice is much appreciated. How did you go about learning the fundamentals? I've got Scott Robertson's how to draw book but perspective is very confusing.
Scariest part is how competitive the art industry is, feels like even if your really good its still really hard to get work. Suppose I shouldn't let it discourage me, but I am worried at 18 it might be too late to become good.
I hope you do well though, your work is really amazing

So let me say this first. The first time i thought. I'd like to learn how to draw. I was 19 and was learning philosophy in paris. Two years later i realized you could actually learn how to draw. I was 21, dropped out of university and enrolled in art school. I was so bad, i didn't iven know what i was doing next to people who drew since they were 12...maybe iven earlier. But the truth is. I kept at it and sadly for those guys that already knew how to draw. i eventually got better then them. There will always be those who know what they want to be from a very early stage in their life. But the wast majority start at 18. So really don't worry about that. The only thing that you have to understand is. what ever happens, iven if it's really really hard and slow. Don't give up. Because that's the only thing that you need to know. don't give up and push to get better, never be content with what you know.
Now I honestly don't think it's hard to get jobs at my level if you have iven the least bit of social skills. I don't consider myself good in any way, but i know a lot of people that are not yet at my level that get work all the time. I don't know how to put myself out there because being social is a skill, and i'm just not good at it. But i get better and i will eventually have an easier time there to. But if you are already talking with me about those kind of things. I'm sure you won't have any problem at all getting contacts when your skill level gets at the right point. And jobs will come to you organically.
since you are this early in your education. Learn the fundamentals. If you want to learn perspective the best book i have ever bought was perspective for comic book artists. Anatomy wise. You'll learn that you have to relearn all the time from different teacher till one of them clicks with you somehow. Learn from loomis, villpu, bridgeman, learn about the rilley method, you need to find the one that works for you. If you know 4chan. Go to the ic board. Don't post immediately because the people on this board can be real dickheads for the stupidest things. I'm serious, they will tear you appart just because they are frustrated for one reason or an other. But if you watch and read the threads long enough you'll get a lot of resources to learn how to draw. Maybe go in the beginners thread and post your work, once you're comfortable with being attacked for no reason but that you exist... But seriously, wait till you understand how bad the board culture is, because this is 4chan. It's nice because people can say what ever they want without consequences. But that also means they don't have to be nice, because they are anonymous.
If you want to progress fast, You can read and learn all day long. But if you don't draw a lot. It won't work. Drawing is what makes you understand what you learn. If you don't draw, you think you know things, but you don't understand them untill you tried to apply it 100 times and failed to apply it. Draw a lot, and as soon as possible draw from imagination all the time as well as studys. If you only do studys, you'll get very good very fast at copying things. If you do a study then try to apply what you think you learned from that study to imagination you will actually know what you really learned. A lot of people get very good at studys, but then realise they are lost when they actually have to draw from imagination. Because, when you already have all the information right next to you, you don't have to understand that information. You just copy it. But when you have to build up an image from scratch, that's when you actually need to know how things work. So do both and to it a lot.
Now i am being very preachy here haha, but that's because i really am talking to myself and what i would have liked to know early in my career. I wasn't very focused and i never really had anybody to help me, so i lost a lot of time. I'm 29 since last month. And i really believe that you can get to my level way earlier if you focus really hard. Some say you can get good in 3 years. I honestly think that the only way that's possible is if you focus on one thing only. Look android jones. he does one thing and one thing only and he is very good at it, but don't ask him to do environments or illustration, because that is not what he focused on, He focused on grey scale character art. IF you want to be more well rounded, you can either learn everything at once like i did and take longer to get to a professional level, or get really good and professional at one very focused thing, get work for that thing and then slowly get good at the rest. But what ever you do, It will work out. Just stick with it iven if you really really don't want to anymore. Stick with it, keep drawing, and you'll get good. The secret is not giving up all the rest is details.
Sorry for the rant haha and if you ever have more questions iven later, don't hesitate to ask, i'll try to answer if i can.

I mentioned android jones but i meant anthony jones. Anyway, if it was useful iven a bit, that's good haha. But hey i know what it feels like. Getting good in art is ultimately a very lonely and personal route. You may find pears who understand your struggle and try to help you, but only you can push yourself to get good. It's not math were 1 plus 1 equals 2. You have to find your own answers to your own problems all the time. It's hard and really really slow and you'll get frustrated a lot. I'm not sure there is a way around it except if you have one of these weird personality types that just always feel motivated ( lucky them). For me at least my brain always wants to be at a level that my real skill just can't reach yet. But you have to remind yourself that iven though you can't see it, each painting, every drawing is getting you one step closer to the skill you want to have. The problem is that once you reach that skill level, your brain will have new expectation of you. It's an eternal grind. But the only way you get better is to draw more. But you'll have moments were you'll impress yourself. They are rare and don't last very long. But for those few moments. It's worth it for me haha.
Ok that's it i finish ranting haha. I'm really just procrastinating instead of working here....i'm not kidding anyone.
