No problem! Fluorite and rutilated quartz are probably my two most favourite stones, and I really like the way you manipulated the wire to fit them. You have some really beautiful work

Haha thanks Nice to know I'm not alone!

Thank you for the compliment, greatfull received and collected in a big sweetie jar that stands in my kitchen window!

Realistic, you think so? I always think I have a slightly cartoony style, I have been trying to get away from that a little recently, and I haven't posted the results...

No problem! Sorry for late reply

Yah, I thought it was a photograph from the thumbnail and then sat for quite a while after I opened it trying to get my head aroung the fact tht it wasn't...
The colours give it so much depth, it really looks three-dimentional and the texture and patterns just imitate the stones perfectly. A really beautiful job!

lamorth-the-seeker In reply to rockyakkirulz [2012-01-24 19:44:56 +0000 UTC]

Thanks. My moldavite is one of my most favorite pieces, and definitely the most expensive.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

rockyakkirulz In reply to lamorth-the-seeker [2012-01-25 01:05:54 +0000 UTC]

Yes indeed! I have been looking to buy a piece for quite some time now, but it is difficult for me to find something I like that is within my price range
I need to do a little more research before I commit to buying one, I think.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

lamorth-the-seeker In reply to rockyakkirulz [2012-01-25 07:52:13 +0000 UTC]

Well, moldavite can be had for just a few dollars, if you just want a small piece. Mine was expensive because it is a "Besednice" type. They also call it 'hedgehog'. It's only the higher end stuff that costs a lot.
I always do a lot of research before I buy anything expensive, or if it's something I don't know about.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

rockyakkirulz In reply to lamorth-the-seeker [2012-01-25 11:17:50 +0000 UTC]

Yes, but unfortunatley where I live there aren't that many places I can go that might have a peice, and the ones that do are usually high-end expensive. Much as I would love a besednice, they only have larger, expensive ones.
I have managed to find several other tektites that weren't too bad, but no moldavite. I could probably buy one online but I'd rather not, as I like to be able to see the piece properly before I buy anything.

Yes, it's so easy to be caught out nowadays. It really annoys me when I see people selling something as something else, so they can make a bigger profit. When I first started collecting I got caught out a few times, so I guess it's made me overly-cautious. Still, it's worth it when you find something amazing!

lamorth-the-seeker In reply to rockyakkirulz [2012-01-25 20:41:06 +0000 UTC]

There isn't anywhere near me that I can buy rocks or mineral specimens, that I know of. I did a search and I haven't found any yet.
I got my moldavite online. It was scary since it was so expensive, but they had good pictures and it was the exact one that was in the listing. Some things I won't buy online though. I just had to have that one.

rockyakkirulz In reply to lamorth-the-seeker [2012-01-29 06:34:06 +0000 UTC]

Yeah. Maybe I should give online ago then. But I will do more research first.

Wow, that's pretty awesome! How long have you been collecting for?

I've tried photographing my rocks before but I never felt they were good enough for DA. However, I think I might try again now!

uncreativescreenname In reply to rockyakkirulz [2012-01-24 17:50:17 +0000 UTC]

More than 11 years.

Ya, I know what you mean. I need to make a better lighting setup and still life table... I really hate being able to see the texture of the paper.

rockyakkirulz In reply to uncreativescreenname [2012-01-25 11:21:41 +0000 UTC]

Awesome! I've probably been collecting for 6-7 years now, I think.

Yeah. Although most of your photo's look pretty good already! You really capture the details of your pieces well.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

uncreativescreenname In reply to rockyakkirulz [2012-01-27 02:34:14 +0000 UTC]

Yeah. I try to, but it would be good to get a bright soft light and make a series of apertures for it. I'll probably end up making a light setup. Everything is too expensive, for how easily I can make it.

DEMI IN PERTH EARLY - IT IS NOT RIGHT.

Um. I don't know really.

Actually, are you free in the next week? We could all get together now that Demi's back. Actually it depends if Kathy can make it or not too, but I haven't heard from her.

Yeah, I am free most days. I'm ringing Kathy at some point so I'll check with her, get her to email or ring you or something.
Sounds fun!
