Holaaa~
So.
What is the meaning of what...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

silverwolf67 In reply to yeizhi312 [2012-03-03 02:34:08 +0000 UTC]

What is the meaning of what?....... Oh damn. That's a toughie. Brain pain coming here...Givme an hour, I'll be back. Gotta think on this. I'll just keep my computer on.

Alright, so... "what" is basically the essence of something. "What" is basically the definition. You know... something IS something. In this question "what is the meaning of what" you are asking about the definition of the meaning of what, which would be the definition of what. I almost said that "what" is "how something is" but then I realized that "what" and "how" are two really different things.
For example: When you ask "What are you" the answer is "I'm a human" or something like that.
When you ask "How are you" the answer is something like "I'm feeling good"
You can see the difference, right?
So "what" is more physical, permanent, and is the essence really. "How" is more wavy, and it describes something that changes, like mood.
Another example: "What is this apple" "It's a fruit" "How is the apple" "It tastes good."
"How" is more mentally, most of the time can vary with OPINION.
"What" is solid, it's more like the FACT.
Of course, there are exceptions where the line is less evident. As in "What is life" and "How is life". What life is could vary with opinion.
But even so, you could answer "what is life" with something that you can't deny is at least part of the fact. Such as "life is when things breath, consume energy, etc.". With "how is life" there is no way you can answer that without something that is fullblown opinion.
Also, you can see that the answer to "what is life" is a definition and is something more permanent.
How life is can change from day to day.

There are times when both "what" and "how" can be used. As in "what are you feeling" and "how are you feeling". Both provide the same answer. Because "What" is definition, so that question asks the "definition of your feelings", which would be the same answer as the "how" version.

I'm done now.
That was fun.

What is the meaning of bunnies???

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

silverwolf67 In reply to yeizhi312 [2012-03-05 00:57:57 +0000 UTC]

....Bunnies = Small mammals in the kingdom Animalia of the superphylum Chordata of the phylum Vertebrata of the class Mammalia of the order Lagomorpha of the family Leporidae..
Of 8 different genera (plural for "Genus") Pentalagus, Bunolagus, Nesolagus, Romerolagus, Brachylagus, Sylvilagus, Oryctolagus, or Poelagus.
And then there are the species, but I don't wanna list all of them, 'cause there's like 15 species for genus Sylvilagus.
They are herbivores. Male=buck, female=doe, young one=kit/kitten.
They're pets, food, or live in the wild in meadows, forests, deserts, ect.
They're furry, they jump, they have long ears, blah blah blah.
More than half at the world's rabbit population is in North America.
And I could go on but no. You get the point.
Hehe, science is fun.

IN the Martian Chronicles, did you reach the Night Meeting? Where Tomas meets the Martian?
And he talks about Time?
or not....?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

silverwolf67 In reply to yeizhi312 [2012-03-07 03:17:28 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I read it. Veeeerrry interesting. Makes me think of the theory that time doesn't actually go in a straight line. That it actually just all happens at once and our minds just perceive it as happening event after event. So maybe at that moment where Tomas and the Martian meet up, for some reason they saw time differently, and saw the past and future at the same time. Except it isn't really past and future, since it all actually happens at once. More like a lake than a river, as Miranda put it.
Anyway, that dam great-horned owl has stolen my heart. Just like every pigeon I see. Or songbird. Or falcon. Or eagle. Or duck. Or geese.
God dam birds, always killing me with their awesomeness. I should say god-blessed birds. They're not really damned.
I had a name for a pigeon I kept seeing last year. It had weird white markings on it, and I seemed to keep seeing it at the 14 bus stop. I called it Snowy. It had really cool wings. It's amazing how small birds can seem until they open their wings. Like a month ago I saw a really dark bird standing on a lawn across the street. It was a bit larger than most birds I see, but didn't seem special. But then it flew up to a telephone pole, and I saw that bird was actually GIGANTIC. One of the biggest wingspans I've ever seen in real life. It might've even been a hawk or something, but I didn't have my glasses on.
I'll just stop now before I get carried away.

I agree.
Well, to me, the beginning wasn't weak, it was just...I don't know how to explain it. I felt like they took too long with the beginning, but they did include everything, and even though it was still a bit rushed, you couldn't take anything out because then someone who didn't read the book wouldn't understand....Does that make sense?

And then I felt that the games were a bit fast, but they did include everything ...so I can't really complain.

I actually didn't think much of the movie. It was a great adaptation, but the movie itself wasn't like that mind-blowing amazing. It was good...but not that awesome...

However, like 4 other people are really great, so I don't think we'll win!

You did great, the microphone for Maryanne was a bit off though. All the others were pretty good too. But it was all singing except for the Beethoven one which was a bit disappointing. And your act was the only one with drums The little boy who sang and did the piano, I thought he was walking to the drums, and I was so happy. But then he walked passed the drums and to the piano, and that was just so very disappointing. And not a single rock one either.
Anyway, you disagree? Please elaborate.

Thanks~
Yeah, the mike made her voice a bit more nasally than it really is.
The Beethoven was very impressive to me (probably because I've played the song she played before..but...still ... )

I think that success has to hold some degree of respect by like intelligent people or respect from like higher-class people.
Like, you could open your own mini-hot dog stand (MC Chronicles! ), and you might have achieved in choosing the perfect place for lots of business, but I don't consider that business.
People who are like businessmen/women, CEOs, etc probably look at you in pity. They don't respect you.

Things like that. So...yeah...it's not just simply achieving something

I mean, your definition is correct if you mean, I succeeded in getting an A on my report card!
But the prompt was asking more for it as like a life meaninglful thingy...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

silverwolf67 In reply to yeizhi312 [2012-04-20 03:20:44 +0000 UTC]

Hmm... success is a very big term... the business thing you are talking about is just one example of success. It's financial success. There's also success in happiness, success in finishing a 2,000 page book, success in gaining more rights, success in freeing the slaves, success in gaining more political power, success in winning the talent show, success in finally beating tetris, ect.
Success, in definition, is achievement.
In fact, from Dictionary.com: "the favorable or prosperous termination of attempts or endeavors."
Basically, a favorable outcome.
I understand what you mean by how the prompt meant some big life thingy. But you know, owning an awesome hotdog stand that would last for decades would be quite a nice life achievement.
And beating tetris (the normal version. with all the god-dam levels.) would be considered an amazing thing to accomplish in your life.
All joking aside, some people may not think of being a business person as such a big success. Success in life itself considers many aspects, and many people won't be happy working in business. Sitting in an office. Rotting to death. Of course, it is still a form of success, because it takes lots of work. Still, if the hotdog stand person is happier, he/she has had more success in life.
The way you worded that paragraph, you made it seem as if a CEO's (or some other fancy person's) opinion of you would matter in terms of how successful you are. Success is a favorable outcome. Therefore, in your eyes, if it's good it's success. In the other person's eyes, it may not be "success", but since when did a f--king stranger have anything to do with your life. You don't need their respect.
Success is different in everyone's eyes. It's not defined, other than accomplishing something. Some people would be happy to be a CEO that makes a million a year. Others are happy as a monk that make a grand total of zero dollars a year. Success in life is when a person is happy with their life. Success in life does not always equal financial success.

yeizhi312 In reply to silverwolf67 [2012-04-22 22:06:09 +0000 UTC]

...And, that is your definition of success...

Now.
Do you believe in luck?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

silverwolf67 In reply to yeizhi312 [2012-04-28 07:44:37 +0000 UTC]

Luck? Oh dam it... Don't do this to me, it's 11:40 pm. Well, luck=chance, so this is basically the "chance vs. destiny" argument.
Or, from a different perspective, it could be the "hardwork vs. chance" thing. You can win the lottery and get rich, or you can work your butt off in college and get screwed (and the other way around).
I believe that if you work hard enough (or have talent, etc.) you are more likely to get "good" luck. You just have more opportunities to get something good to happen.
Now if you believe in destiny, luck become irrelevant. All that happens is set in stone; it was meant to happen, nothing could have changed it. There is no such thing as luck. Luck is basically getting something that is against the odds, whether it be good or bad. With destiny there is no chance, therefore no odds, therefore there isn't a thing called luck. Everything that has happened had a 100% chance of happening. If you believe in destiny, the way there seems to be chance in this world is nothing more than an illusion.

yeizhi312 In reply to silverwolf67 [2012-05-01 00:11:11 +0000 UTC]

...But I asked you if you believe in it.
Or...what do you believe in?
Destiny? (I believe in that, but I don't believe in changing it. Destiny is Destiny...)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

silverwolf67 In reply to yeizhi312 [2012-05-01 22:51:56 +0000 UTC]

I believe that "destiny" is really something that possibly may be real, or may not, but either way it makes no difference. It's something that cannot be proven. You roll a die, and it's a 3. Chance or destiny? There's no way to prove it. And it makes no difference.
Unless you are talking about people who can see the future, whether or not destiny is real makes no difference.
Anyway, people say "Oh, you can change your 'destiny' blah blah". But.... how the heck did you know what your destiny is in the first place? I think what they really mean is that you don't have to go on the road that's expected of you. Because every decision you make, may just have been your destiny in the first place. You think you're changing your 'destiny' but in reality, it may have been meant to happen. Even if we have fortune tellers, maybe it was your destiny to learn your 'future' and do something about it.
There is no way to prove destiny. So it makes no difference. It's like trying to find out the real color of the sky, if there is one. You just go on and on and get nowhere. No evidence can be acquired.
You say you don't believe in changing destiny. Destiny, in definition, cannot be changed. You believe you are changing it, but are you really? Maybe it was your destiny to change the thing you call your 'destiny'.

But even so...you could still believe in it
But, I guess your point was that it doens't really matter to you...?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

silverwolf67 In reply to yeizhi312 [2012-05-10 02:19:38 +0000 UTC]

I'm saying that you can believe in it. I'm saying that believing makes no difference whatsoever. Other than maybe making you feel better because it was "meant to be".
I just thought something about trying to change destiny. So, let's say you try to change your destiny into something completely different. You could start skipping school tomorrow. But would you? You could change to a different high school other than Masterman. But would you? There are a million things you can do differently. But would you? Having all those choices are really theoretical. The question, when it comes to "changing destiny", is will you choose something that you won't choose. All the choices you make are based on you human nature. Does anyone choose anything that goes against who they really are? That right there may be destiny in a nutshell. Someone may seem to choose something that goes against their nature, but there must be something in them that made the decision in the first place. Yes, people do change over their lifetime, or they seem to completely stray off the path they were taking. There was some part of them that led to that change in the first place. Every decision you make is reflective of you.
Anyway, are you coming on Friday?
