I did it. The woman is an Alphonse Mucha drawing which is did some color changes to & then added different bits of jewelry & metal objects around her, so she's surrounded. Each one also has a different filter or effect on it. It was a Photoshop project I did for my Graphic Design Software class- which is why all the filters & effects & such.

It's a damn funny story. Especially for weirdos like me who've been keeping up with Windy's DA Beastiary & are a little too familiar with Norse myth.

Hey thanks for the fave!

I'd like to see that artist's book you're creating. I'm bipolar too. "In Sleep" is, wow, a great illustration - especially for the content of the book.

I had been on drugs for nearly a decade. Ever since I had been put on them I had been repeatedly taking it upon myself to stop taking them. I'd endure for a couple weeks then be forced to go back on them when I couldn't function. I've been off them for a nearly a year now, and ever since I've been free of them I've regained my inspiration.

Honestly, I had forgotten what it feels like to...feel.

I really need to scan those other prints from it. I also need to get more done with it just in general. I'm sooooo behind in Print right now.... :-P

I refused to be on meds for a really long time-- saw too much of the down side. I've been on an anti-depressant for the last few years, which has helped a lot & I"m about to start a very low dosage of a mood stabilizer. Which scares me a little. Without them, I'm suicidal most of the time & can't concentrate or finish things. The psychologist I started seeing last semester has been doing a lot of cognative/behavioral therapy, too, which has helped me quite a bit.

It's a weird illness. Effects are so different from person to person & treatments are so variable. What works perfectly for one could be the worst thing possible for another.

hi, sharon! welcome to DA. i'm always excited to find real metalsmiths here... i also love Cappy Counard's work- she did a slide presentation and soldering technique workshop at my alma mater. Does she still teach at Edinboro? good luck with school et al. i look forward to seeing more work.

Cappy does indeed still teach at Edinboro- she's my Metal's prof this semester. We call her "Dad" (Sue Amendolara is "Mom") . Her work is scary insane- all those teeny tiny little wires.... I sooooo want one of her rings.

Did you go to RIT? I know she did the soldering demo there last semester, in exchange for Leonard Urso coming down & doing a Chasing & Repouse demo for us. We yelled at her about it-- she'd never done that demo for us!

MassArt in Boston. She was there maybe two years ago? Insist on the demo! It was really informative! What an amazing mastery she has... and aesthetic!

Oh, we did insist on it! I've now got a magnetic third hand on my tools-to-aquire-ASAP list, plus a variety of tweezers.

She wasn't very happy with me yesterday, though. I didn't have my project entirely complete for critique. Damn hinges! :-P

Will you upload this silverware of yours AT ONCE young lady !? *throws chocolate, just in case it works better* Woot ! Welcome !

smithing-chick In reply to somk [2005-01-15 22:11:48 +0000 UTC]

I only have one piece of silverware that's well & trully finished- a salad serving spoon. Hot forging sterling is fun but a bit dangerous when I can't tell if the hammer room fills with gas fumes (I have no sense of smell & almost asphixiated myself), so the matching salad fork hasn't ever been finished & I've avoided working that way. However, I've recently figured out that one of our soldering stations is set-up so that hotforging could be done with excellent ventalation, so I'm hoping to go back to it.

Under normal circumstances, throwing chocolate is an excellent way to get my attention. My problem has been that the special lens-for-making-pictures-of-metal that the school has was broken last year & we've only just now got it replaced, so I don't have any photos of my metals stuff yet. Which has caused me more problems recently..... We're all doing a massive slide-taking effort starting this coming Wednesday, so I'll have them soon. Looking at your work, I think you'll really like a couple of pieces I did last year, particularly my big-ass silver drinking horn.

You know, a thought just occured to me. When you said silverware, you meant all the silver pieces, not just flatware, didn't you?

I'm such a goober sometimes.....
