I'm sure you get this question a bit, but I was just wondering if there's anywhere you sell your gorgeous work?

Amazing work, love the subtleties of the colours and the way the shapes seem so free but very structured
Recipe For Hate, awesome album

Thank you for your kind words! I've been on a bit of a hiatus with ceramics, but I am very excited to get some work going in my new studio.
Even though my punk days are over, I would still consider RFH one of my favorite albums of all time!

Just happened to stumble upon you on here, i really enjoy your work some of your pieces remind me of Debra Schwarzkopf. Id personally like to see the patterns on your pieces interact and play off each other a little more such as continuing or progressing pieces to piece, just a thought.

Hi, I love your work!
I wondered if you could tell me how you carve your doiley ceramics, they looks so perfect I wondered if you had any tips or tricks?
Thanks,
Sammy

hey, i experimented with several techniques when working with doilies, tracing, carving, shellac. the one that work the best i found was actually tracing the pattern directly from a doiley, and then waiting until the piece was bone dry before i started carving. i would spritz it with a little water and then carve using a hoop or dremel tool.
shellac also worked really well, but you need a thicker doiley. you paint the shellac over the doiley, using it as a stencil, and then wait for the piece to dry. then you can go back in with a sponge and start to wipe away the clay that isn't affected by the shellac. it will leave a raised pattern of the doiley. hope this helps! sorry its been so so long since i've been on here

BTW Sonkette, I sent you the questions for the interview (for Artist of the Month) via a note on Deviant art. Feel free to be as informal as you'd like, and don't answer any questions you're uncomfortable with. However I am going to have to ask that you finish it and send it back to me by Sunday, Jan 31 at the *VERY* latest.

I wish I could put my other ceramic work up, but I have such a terrible camera right now none of my images are really coming out.
I graduated with a BFA at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (the school affiliated with the art museum, not the AI that's everywhere..)

yeah I'm totally taking advantage of our schools great documenting equipment... no idea what I'm going to do when I graduate.
our visiting artist at our school this year, emily schroeder, was thinking of teaching at that school next year I think. I've heard great things about it

That mint glaze is absolutely perfect. Did you get the recipe from somewhere or develop it yourself?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
sonkette In reply to KraftyThoughts [2009-11-30 07:01:30 +0000 UTC]
It was originally developed by Sam Chung in Phoenix, but its really easily manipulated and almost never gives you the same results twice(colour wise)

Oh, I love Sam Chung! I see his work all of the time on Akar. Did you study under him at all or did you get the recipe from a book/magazine he contributed to?

He was recently at our school for a conference, but I got the recipe from another student who was using the glaze

I'm not at the moment, school is just a bit too overwhelming at this time in my life... But if you could recommend a website that would be great to know for the future!

KraftyThoughts In reply to sonkette [2009-12-02 21:03:10 +0000 UTC]
Etsy and Artfire are becoming huge in the handmade world because you can sell your work for a relatively cheap price, and I have seen some good ceramic work on those sites before.
However I would suggest that you submit some images to Akar as a lot of artists in the ceramic community follow it. Actually, I mentioned it before, but Sam Chung has work on there and I believe he did a show on there previously.
This is a little early, but I've been looking for more artists to write about for my blog (Specifically the artist of the month posting). I have an artist for this month already and may have next month's lined up as well, but I am still very much interested in showcasing some of your work and doing an interview with you.
Let me know if you're interested!
