Hello, friend. I just wanted to stop by to tell you something important that needs to be said, just in case no one else says it.

Β You're not any of the following:
--Stupid
--Worthless
--Lame
--Strange
--Weird
--Talentless
--A failure

Β So what are you? You are:
--Awesome
--Special
--Loved
--Important

Β And because you exist, the world is:
--A better place.

I hope this brightens up your day, but most importantly, I hope you remember this for as long as you live.
And if you really want to, Copy + Paste this to 10 other people you care about. It's not mandatory, just making you feel better is reward enough. But maybe, if we spread the word together, we can make this world a little better for everyone!

Ah right, I used to work there occasionally in my old job. I live in Redcar, home of the lemon top and the oldest lifeboat in the world (and not much else)! So not so far away from each other. Small world.

Yeah, keep at it. Few people get to do what they love for a job, but you've got the knack and I think you could do it. The cartoon style is popular at the moment. I don't know a lot about it, but I imagine there's plenty of work for illustrators and so on? I'm guessing you do well out of commissions too? Good on ya!

I do a bit of writing myself, but its justΒ a hobby and way of relaxing and getting some ideas out. I don't profess to be much good. I've enjoyed checking out other people's work on here for a while, and thought I might as well set up a profile and try to use the site properly!Β

Anyway, don't be a stranger. If you have any advice, ideas or anything let me know. Feel free to keep in touch.

Ben.

superlucky13 In reply to Scanner-Darkly [2015-06-23 08:17:19 +0000 UTC]

I've heard of Redcar but I've never been. I suppose the lemon top is a neat claim to fame haha

Yeah deviantarts a good place to share but also explore some really good (and terrible) stuff it's nice that you have a creative hobby, sharing it with people online should make it even more full filling.

I wouldn't dream of giving a writer advice, as much as a like making story's the actually act of writing isn't my string point.

You're really not missing much! Must admit I find Hartlepool a bit grim. Seems a shortage of teeth there...

And I won't offer a talentedΒ artist advice either, other than to keep it up.

I've definitely seen both good and bad so far here. I'm thinking though I haven't even scratched the surface!

I've been using DA since I was like 13 so I've been to the depths of crap that this website has to offer, thankfully thanks to the websites set up it's a lot easier to come by the amazing stuff!

and yeah Hartlepool isn't the best, I'm originally from Kent so I'm not even northern. I moved up here to live with my boyfriend. So it's temporary.

I don't know if this is good or bad, but I've been converted to the rainbow side ever since I started watching the first few episodes of My Little Pony. I've blindly denied the Magic of Friendship for over 3 years not realizing what I had missed...

Welcome friend *throws rainbow coloured confetti at you*

Mlp is utterly charming, it's the perfect thing to watch when you're feeling gloomy. I must say I never would have expected you to get into it!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Hethalos In reply to superlucky13 [2014-11-04 18:42:57 +0000 UTC]

I gave it a try after being shocked at how some intelligent people, including a person who runs a philosophy channel on Youtube and a person who graduated with honors in information technology, loved MLP. I watched the first two episodes to see what the fandom surrounding MLP was about. Initially, I felt completely awkward, but I gradually started to like MLP, and to this day, while it's not my favourite show, I still think it has solid scriptwriting and fun, quirky characters, especially Pinkie Pie.

On a side note, I recommended MLP to one of my friends who also thought that watching some show about ponies was way beyond his comfort zone, but he too was converted to the rainbow side and he even watched EVERY episode of MLP!

By the way, have you dropped Legend of Korra? If you did, I don't blame you but the fourth season is pretty decent.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

superlucky13 In reply to Hethalos [2014-11-04 19:14:50 +0000 UTC]

I see! Sometimes it's good to go out of your comfort zone in terms of the media you consume, you can often be pleasantly surprised by what you find! Oh and highfive to a fellow pinkie pie fan her and Rarity are by far my favorite ponies they just seem to attract the more interesting episodes of the show.

I still have not gone back to Korra, I've heard really great things about the later seasons. One day I'll pick it up again I'm just not really in the mood for it at the moment. I've been really into reading lately it's sort of taken over my tv viewing time xD (currently rereading all of His Dark materials...just a remarkably good trilogy)

( PS- I just have to add the latest Equestria girls movie is surprisingly enjoyable, it might be worth a watch if you're bored one day (just read a brief summery of the first movie if you don't want to watch it))

I also like Spike. He's so adorably quaint.

I still have not gone back to Korra, I've heard really great things about the later seasons. One day I'll pick it up again I'm just not really in the mood for it at the moment.

Believe me, the later seasons of LoK are significantly better than god-awful season 2. However, I do find that poor pacing can certainly kill the holistic enjoyment from watching a series with overarching plots, so I still feel ambivalent about LoK as a whole.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

superlucky13 In reply to Hethalos [2014-11-04 21:35:24 +0000 UTC]

Spike is adorable, though he can be horribly written in some episodes (same goes for pinkie which is a shame)

Sounds like LoK will never reach the greatness of the last air bender :/ which is a shame really because tbh it could have surpassed it. One day I will go back and see what I think of it myself, though hearing the fact it has poor pacing doesn't feel me with great confidence.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Hethalos In reply to superlucky13 [2014-11-04 22:48:57 +0000 UTC]

I agree. The most annoying part of stories-with-great-premises-but-bad-execution is their wasted potential. Legend of Korra could have definitely surpassed AtLA since many of the conflicts in LoK had far more complex and nuanced undertones than those in AtLA. For instance, the struggle between the non-benders and the benders in the first season gave the creators so much potential to delve into proletariat vs. bourgeoisie class conflicts, the psychological and sociopolitical implications of modernization of a culture, the nature of revolutions, and the line between equality and justice. Unfortunately, (SPOILER ALERT for those reading this comment and haven't watched 1st season!) Amon died so quickly and so much of the potential was just wasted on some pro-bending tournaments which rendered LoK much less tightly written than AtLA. Seeing LoK develop is akin to reading some pitiful story about a child prodigy girl who becomes a prostitute and dies of AIDS at the age of 20. Okay, maybe that analogy was a little to extreme (that probably would have been much more well-suited for the Star Wars prequels!), but I'm sure you get the point.

Nonetheless, season 4's antagonist is pretty sweet. I like her dialogue, and she's quite believable as a Machiavellian, smooth-talking, harsh, dictator.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

superlucky13 In reply to Hethalos [2014-11-06 18:24:25 +0000 UTC]

Yeah I was very disappointed when they killed Amon off, it was a total waste. I really wanted to see more about the relationship between benders and non-benders, the social dynamics of having a race of people some naturally more gifted then others is fascinating.

It could've been an extremely compelling and very mature show, but it just hasn't developed like that. (At least from what I've heard/ your analogy certainly paints a picture xD)

I'm a sucker for decent antagonists, hearing that theres a good on in season 4 just instils the fact that I will watch it one day.

this is random. But I've started to watch some videos about a MLP fanfiction called "Fallout equestria" it looks like it could be veeeery interesting. Since you've just gotten into the show I thought maybe I'd bring it up, it seems like something you might enjoy.
