Welcome! i'm not kidding when I say your stuff looks like spot illustration for I'd see published on say, Nylon Magazine. Why haven't you you been published? What has your experience been so far with regards to illustration? How tough has it been getting your work out to the public?

In terms of my work, I can only say it's left me wanting. I can go on saying a lot of bad stuff about my work but I figured it's pointless and unhealthy.

ok you're my new best friend now. haha! but thank you. im currently employed as a graphic designer, just started obsessing with drawing/traditional art after a couple months of working. as far as 'illustrating' experience none officially. i personally dont think i am quite there yet to be taking jobs that would require me to draw like how i do here. i feel like i wont be good at the handling the pressure it might come with. i actually started drawing to get away from the pressures of design work so it might be weird. right now it's all just fun nothing serious. but yeah, i dont know. it would be really nice to try it

haha! well i guess we all from some form of self torture.

wow! glad to hear that. I will admit, I'm constantly fascinated by local artists willing to talk about art for art's sake. how long have you been working as a graphic designer? has the work been fulfilling your "needs" as a creative professional? at least, in the beginning? i work in the most uncreative job ever (purchasing), and I do wonder what it's like... if you don't mind me asking did you take drawing classes? purely self-taught?

art! i've fallen mad for it. im about 2 years in. funny you ask, i whine a lot about work actually heh, too much idealism. i guess what i wish for/need are other creatives around to work with and proper project management. but the job has been good to me so far. now i feel bad that i complain so much whlist creatives like you work your job, eep. i had two drawing classes back in college then stopped going at it because i was very disappointing. self taught since last year though i've been meaning to go to an art class, painting maybe, for the longest time

Let me preface my response that I been through various stages artistic self-doubt, whining, obsessive, tempermental behavior for my entire artistic life. You shouldn't apologize for that behavior because it's normal! Initially, it was tough to wake up in the morning realizing I was neither as good or naturally talented like James Jean or Gaiman or the eye of a Bill Cunningham or Testino. That level of creativity has always eluded I've learned to accept it... somewhat. I think, based on what i see with your work, that you have an amazing understanding for proportion, and values. Maybe you didn't so badly in art school after all! If there's one thing I noticed, it's that the linework tends to be... rather messy at times. As fashion illustrator David Downtown once said - line quality is important! It's what will make or break your work. My linework is quite shoddy, and I'm always battling myself to slow down... to constantly refine my lines...

thank you for thinking that but yup it seems all over the place my drawings but i guess i love it enough now to just keep going. and for that i am fortunate. and speaking of james jean i just witnessed him paint through his uStream last weekend! he is amazing.

Hey, did you meet the James Jean when he was here in Manila? I didn't and boy do I regret it. I did see his prints on Fully Booked tough. Beautiful seeing them there. I did get that sketchbook of his. Made me question why I do art for some reason. What was James Jean working on?

Your work is beautiful. Your portrait of Tala [link] is amazing. The values are all in the right places. The cheeks, the nose, the hair. The detail on the eyes shows me you've got the skills! I know we all do this for the love of the medium, is there a particular artist that has inspired you (besides James Jean of course!) and is informing your style and work?
