I would reply to you there but the guy blocked me for not agreeing with him.
But fire is something not present in the wild. I wouldn't so much mind if it was an element like earth and water that was present in the wild but it's not. Plus if they did that to firebenders, they should have did that to airbenders also where they always need a wind. But than again, that would put 'Uung' at a disvantage and he is the main character amirite? XD; To me I always looked as it as each element was equal. Firebenders and Airbenders could create there bending material but you can't touch it and they can't turn it into a physical object. Earthbenders and Waterbenders bend objects you can touch. They can also bend them into walls, buildings, objects, etc. Making firebenders need a source puts them unequal with the rest.
Besides. What happens when they run out of fire? Unlike water they can't take there element from the ground if they drop it and Earth is practically almost everywhere. I think that making them not able to create fire makes a big plot hole for Sozin's Comet and makes the Firebends at a major disadvantage. I think it would have been better to do something like 'firebenders who think the source of fire is anger/rage are weaker and have less control than those who know the real meaning/source' which would still make Iroh pwnsome.
And as for the water/earth thing. That would be possible, but the thing is I believe that it would have happened earlier. Waterbenders don't ussually look for other things that have water due to the fact they either carry water with them or live around the water. Earthbenders never tried to bend metal since unlike Toph they couldn't tell there was earth in it or didn't know where it was.
I think if Firebenders needed fire that the first human firebenders may have asked the Dragons why they could breathe it without having a source.

True. But the way I see it, airbenders have air all around them xD
Actually, it still sort of makes sense, 'cause if the firebenders, who need a source, are still powerful enough to take down the other nations, then when Sozin's comet comes their power would be heightened and they'd be even more dangerous. They would then also be able to draw energy from the comet and be able to create fire themselves (so not just the masters?)

But airbenders are more powerful with a wind blowing. They can make there own wind though but still. And sure air is everywhere, but wind isn't and neither is fire. Air and Fire are very similar elements and to me if they did something to firebending, they should have done it to airbending too. Though personally they should have just left the element alone. The series has each element have pros and cons, but the movie makes firebending the weakest with air, earth and water equal.
But the point of Firebending in the cartoon was that there power came from the sun, energy, and breath. Them needing a source kind of took away from that. They can't bend when it's too cold and if they can they're restricted to small parts such as heating up there hand or something. When the sun was out they were more powerful since the main source is able to give them energy. They're weaker at night but the moon still does give up the sun's light and the stars are just distant suns. Not sure if the starts really count though.
Fire=Sun=Light=Energy=Life. And the movie doesn't seem to understand that. It seems to just concentrate fire as fire and not as energy and life.
I still see it as Fire and Air were 'non physical' and Water and Earth are 'physical'. To me by trying to make fire need a source it makes a plot hole with the dragons being able to create fire but not humans (Plus I still think the first firebenders would have asked the dragons why they could make there own fire if at first they could only bend a source), but fire at a disadvantage due to fact you can't find 'fire' randomly in nature (If you don't include forest fires and what fire stands for, it pretty much has to be made by man around 90% of the time or so), and to me it seems that they're trying to clump 'fire' together with the so to speak physical elements you can touch that need a source.
I can understand the Sozin's Comet part but it still feels a bit silly to me. I just feel like that going from needing a source that is very rare to randomly find in the wild and being at a major disadvantage like that than going to awesome create my own fire and being ridiculous powerful is a bit odd.
