To me (maybe this is me being a fantasy writer!) it feels as though it's from the view point of a hunter or stalker just hiding in the woods, watching, waiting. The lighting is beautiful, he has a great feeling of anticipation to me. I could just be mad of course

Yep, the lighting is gorgeous, it's composed so you'd notice the people and the buildings, thus giving it depth. They seem to be gazing at a shrine.
