another great piece of Fernopatrix! Love seein' a full body shot. And, I KNOW WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT WHEN YOU SAY GENESIS2 BASE MODEL NOW! I recently downloaded Daz, and trying to give it a shot. So, my question is, where'd you find the Twi'lek model? or lekku? were they separate? but awesome work on her!

Look at this dev's comments, there is one where I talk about the lekku: fav.me/d7x2ys6

I'll send you a mail with some other stuff as well.

And thanks for the compliments!

Are those new pants? I like em.

0biwanken0bie In reply to MissMaihem [2014-08-31 17:57:04 +0000 UTC]

Why yes they are! They fit a lot better on the Genesis2 model and have many panels that can be removed or hidden for different looks or other reasons!

Some of her old Victoria4 clothing won't work properly with Genesis2. That's why there is a bit of a new look. I'm still working on tweaking it though. I'm not really happy with the collar, and would like to find something like her old one. I'll find it, it will just take a little time!

Thank you! I'm working on some stuff for a few friends, and she needs to be a g2/v6 instead of a v4 model to work properly!

AlairaArt In reply to 0biwanken0bie [2014-08-31 18:54:43 +0000 UTC]

I haven't tried out V6 or G2F yet. Are they backwards compatible with V4 clothing? The main reason why I've been reluctant to try them is because roughly 80% of my runtime and purchases have been for V4.

0biwanken0bie In reply to AlairaArt [2014-08-31 23:31:04 +0000 UTC]

AΒ lot of clothingΒ will work. There is an auto convert thing that pops up when you have the g or g2 model selected. It asks you what the item was designed for (v4, m4, genesis, none, etc.). Then it asks what the item is (headwear, pants, shirt, hair-short, hair-shoulder-length, skirts, and so on). Then it calculates the auto-fit of the item to genesis or genesis2.

Most of the time it works pretty good. But stay away from dresses, they come out really trashed - I generally hide the dress part if there is other stuff I want on the item. I have not had a dress convert correctly yet.

Items that are very intricate in design and are positioned around the breasts will usually get all jagged and deformed. the bigger the breast gets the worse the deformation, genesis auto-follow is the culprit, I think.

Gloves usually don't work either (hand part), but sleeve type items like Fern is wearing above seem to work ok.

Hair works, but it ends up using genesis2's auto-follow. This works well for pants and other form fitting clothing, but not so nice when the hair bulges out unnaturally over eyelashes. The hair works best when it doesn't go over the eyes or get to long.Β

Boots and shoes work half the time. Usually they import in slightly angled below the foot. This will still work if they are not open toed, because you can hide the foot and toes, and just bend the foot back up a little. Although I noticed the toes really deform the footwear if you bend them in cases like that.

The CLP Twi'lek headpiece turns into a non-poseable semi-adaptable object. it will follow the head shape to a reasonable degree. The lekku stick straight up and back in default position, and are useless, so they must be hidden.

All of the clothing that Fern is wearing in the above image is v4 clothing except for the tube top. The v4 tube top works, it just so happens that I have a g2 tube top that I can use.

I hope this info helps! Cheers, and good luck!

Thanks for taking that bag of snakes and laying it all out straight for me. I really appreciate it

It sounds like I was rightfully concerned about the compatibility. Wrestling with the autofit tool doesn't sound worth it to me, and I enjoy using skits, dresses and other free-flowing materials in my renders. I'll probably get G2. I'm just not sure when.

0biwanken0bie In reply to AlairaArt [2014-09-01 04:44:51 +0000 UTC]

When you say "I'll probably get G2", you mean getting characters for G2, right? You should already have the G2 base models - I think they come with DAZ 4.5.

Also, the auto-fit tool is still a very useful tool. I use it almost daily. I may have come of a little bit to negative about it.

AlairaArt In reply to 0biwanken0bie [2014-09-01 06:36:31 +0000 UTC]

So, I already have G2F? When I start Daz, it loads a character automatically called simply "Genesis." It looks the same as the character that has always loaded when I started using Daz a few years ago. It's only been recently that I have started hearing about G2. I assumed that G2M and G2F were new base models.

0biwanken0bie In reply to AlairaArt [2014-09-01 14:57:19 +0000 UTC]

Yes. If you have DAZ 4.5 or 4.6 then you should have Genesis and Genesis2 Starter Essentials. I just checked, and they come with it for free. I guess DAZ knows that by giving the base model away free, they probably will get more sales on stuff related to G and G2.

The main reason I like G2F is auto-follow. It virtually eliminates poke-thru and that kind of stuff. things conform really well with these models. sometimes almost too well (like under and between the breasts). I think there are some add-ons to help eliminate this, though I've never needed them (due to lack of clothing on my girl's part ).

Also the G2FΒ model has improvedΒ joint bending at extreme poses.

The only drawback that's a royal pain is most use SSSΒ in their materials. Good for skin tones, but I haven't mastered it for green and blue skinΒ yet. I ended up removing the SSS shaders from Fern and going back to the regular DAZ shaders. Some day when I get the time, I'll try to figure it out.

As models go it has it's strengths and weaknesses just like V4, and as you use them, you learn to handle those aspects of the models.

Happy G2'ing!
