Description Another view of Crater Lake, one of my new landscapes That water gave me some FITS making it! The crater is sooooo deep in the center that it kept wanting to turn black - and not in a pretty way. So anyway I got it fixed and here you go

Wow, great POV and a very unique scene; the rock and the vegetation in the foreground looks very nice!
The water is a bit too "blue" for me lol...dunno how else to say, it could be more natural-looking ...maybe more transparency or a bit desaturated colors??

Thank you so much Hmmm yes the water was a serious challenge in this, but I was trying to get it very blue kind of patterning it after the water in Crater Lake National Park [link] where due to the "ingredients" the water is almost an unnaturally deep blue and some of the clearest and cleanest natural water around. One of the places I intend to visit when I move out that way

aww beautiful photo! ...in this case, it's enough if you make the water color a bit darker blue

Thank you Drea LOL I had problems with the water turning too dark because of the depth >.>

I see...sometimes I have problems with the color of the water too.

yeah I run into that with depth sometimes. Oh and a trick I do sometimes for deep oceans is to keep the groundplane but turn it completely black Works GREAT

yeah I know this trick and I use it quite often....another similar trick with tropical waters; I use Dark grass procedural material layer on the ground, and it makes the water look greenish and complex

Hmmm I might have not ever played the first game then, I played the one where the task was to go after the alien ship on that big ringworld and all kinds of mutant aliens were somehow being created. I think the human ship crashed too if I remember correctly. It has been a long time

Oh yeah, I can see that eerie opaqueness I was talking about before. It actually reminds me of some of those scenes from China. The material on the rocks is very appropriate fro the type of scene too

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

2753Productions In reply to Chromattix [2009-10-04 11:22:48 +0000 UTC]

Actually you know how I ended up solving it? Not increasing the opacity, but decreasing the murkiness of the water - and adjusting the fade out color in the murkiness channel - then adjusting the Flare intensity and span Thanks on the material for the rocks - that is one material I will never show to Dax lol, ugh, the function editor was NOT a pretty site when I got done, actually it kinda looked like a knot >.>

Chromattix In reply to 2753Productions [2009-10-04 11:26:26 +0000 UTC]

Lol, I'm surprised you didn't know that about the water actually, even I knew that's how to get bright, opaque water but I could never make a single material like the one you got there...touch'e

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

2753Productions In reply to Chromattix [2009-10-05 18:23:31 +0000 UTC]

Oh yes, been doing that for a while with different scenes, such as my original Born on the Bayou swamp scene. Just never really talked about it much Pfft! You can make materials darn good Matt - AND trees
