Description Still tweaking on my new landscape material here, and in this scene I worked more on the sky and getting the "bluer" look at higher altitudes that I was looking for in my previous posting.

Custom GR Sky, custom materials, custom cloud layer, custom water layer.

Hope you like this one

Nothing like a scene where eveyrthing is custom-made the shape of the terrain is great, a d the material is new too (others that have tried it seem to be sticking to the desert colours ) this looks like a rocky mountain area

Scott,

Honestly this is photographically realistic. The sand, the plants, the sky and the lighting all tells me this is a photograph of real life. But you know that feeling you get in the back of your mind that says something isn't right. Well I got it. It tells me something just isn't right about the rocks. I am not sure if it is the colors, or the type of rock its.

It appears to be black and white granite, which is an igneous rock(formed by a bubble of molten rock that bubbled up from the core, not to be confused with lava). To my thinking, on a beach or in a desert, this should be a sedimentary rock.

So its not so much that there is something technically wrong, or that the rock is badly rendered or such. Its more that the rock type just seems out of place for the rest of the surroundings.

These are just my thoughts. Take them or leave them. This does look wonderful. Keep up the good work.

Wow! A lot of that sailed clean over my head Guess I fell asleep in class when we discussed igneous and other rock types lol! Hmmmm. Okay I will work on that Thanks!

Ah, much better. Most impressive is the lighting on the sand and vegetation, not so good in the big rocks, in my opinion. If I recall correctly, there is a parameter in the atmosphere settings to control the altitude at which you are.

2753Productions In reply to N0B0D1 [2009-05-18 00:58:10 +0000 UTC]

Thanks - well not so simple to set "altitude" but it is a delicate balance between lighting type, atmospheric conditions, decay rate and percentage (not to mention color), etc., etc., etc....

This is still a work in progress - especially for the materials as it was just pointed out to me that this is a granite type of igneous rock which is out of place in this scene where there should be a type of sedimentary rock

2753Productions In reply to Kaemon1243 [2009-05-19 03:11:28 +0000 UTC]

LOL yes - by far When I interviewed for that Discovery HD program the Art Director actually told me that they render at much lower resolution then you generally see in "art" renders

2753Productions In reply to Kaemon1243 [2009-05-21 14:31:19 +0000 UTC]

Realize that even with a brand new HDTV the resolution is only 1080i most monitors exceed that by quite a far margin. A standard HDTV resolution of 1080i is at 1920x1080 pixels...yes this looks GREAT especially when compared to earlier analog tv's.
